Upper Nile governor for calls reconciliation initiatives

December 17, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — The newly appointed governor of Upper Nile State, William Othon, today has called for reconciliation and tolerance in the tribal conflict affected region since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
The southern Sudan state is inhabited by various ethnic groups: Dinka, Annuak, Maban, and Shilluk among others with Nuer being the major.
With months for the upcoming national elections in the country running very fast, both members and supporters belonging to ruling coalition the National Congress Party (NCP) and the SPLM are resorting to ethnic mobilization in preparation for the upcoming 2010 elections.
This sparks fears and worries prompting local leaders and influential groups mostly intellectuals to give high attention to initiatives with interest encouraging ethnic reconciliation among rival groups in the area.
Addressing composite group of elders, visiting him today in his office in Malakal town, after taking over as Governor, William Othon, assured them that he wants to work with all the political and social forces in the state to first and foremost establish quick return of security situation to normalcy in the region so as to create favorable environment for the organization and conduct of upcoming elections.
However, he pointed out that these cannot be achieved if traditional leaders exert no efforts for close and regular communications with state authorities to collectively initiate alternatives to resolving existed differences.
But said he with his deputy governor Dok Jok Dok and the cabinet members had agreed to enforce a true partnership for the short remaining time, stressing that the situation in the state is very critical and all the political forces should work together to overcome differences.
Many observers including state officials, intellectuals and prominent members of political parties such as senior members of the SPLM and ministers in the national unity government like Dr. Peter Aduok have expressed concerns and skepticisms over repeated tribal conflict in the region.
This is because in more than four years after the CPA was signed, integration of all forces be it military or political, have not, in reality, been properly conducted in the state and indeed across South Sudan.
Notwithstanding the fact that a joint government has been established at the state level, voices accusing both SPLM and NCP have always come up to challenge their political interest in the area in term of developmental plans.
In the same meeting, Brigadier General, Dok Jok Dok, who doubles up as deputy governor and another as SPLM chairman in the state reiterated his full commitment to strengthening partnership and to develop the region.
With interest and determination, I repeat pledged of the cabinet members support to working together with our new governor in order to provide the best services in this limited time, he said agreeing that priorities of the state government include establishing best alternatives to encourage return of security, political and social stability.

New governor of Upper Nile State with Peter Adwok they lie to the public to call for reconciliation and tolerance in the tribal conflict. The conflict that took place this year was generated by Peter Adwok Nyabac and Lam akol. But peace is not bad but they are not committed to what they said in the public eye. First they must call on Lam Akol and the other not export armamention to their tribe to go and kills loving peace Dinkas. we all love peace sometime but at this time if Lam Akol is not dead yet peace will not come to the region of Upper Nill.The problem now is between Dinka, Nuer and Shilluk leave alone Anuak and Maban.
I do love peace if there is a place to go and buy peace i can go and spent money but with some people in the State peace is so far from State.

You are welcome H.E. the Governor of Upper Nile State,Mr. William but what I know so far is that you element or agents of NCP you are not straight forward. Anyway we shall see who will win but all of us need peace in South sudan and Sudan at large if not at all.
We trust only SPLM which have done and will do the best for us young people of Southern Sudan. But for those who are brebed or bought by so called NCP to kill themselves are the gone cases.
My advise to those who use to comment on this very website they should mind themselves not to comment to the extend that could cause a problem or to open the old wound like 1991 coup, what’s concern it?

Look at this NCP Traitor, whom are you going to blind fold,all the insecurity in Upper Nile was caused by your damn idiot party NCP and your turncoated tribe shilluks,it is clear to every body in sudan south that you’re brought to accomplished the NCP’s workplanns.
so mr double agent you are now under a watchfull screens of all southern sudanese,take care,either to continue with your master assignments which is risky or turn real southerner over night.

Hi brothers & sisters,
I believe that everybody has an opinion and we are all free to exercise prudent intellect to make judgement and to convince other people that what one suggests is true and sensable.To my dismay,so many of us express themselves with utmost lack of sense.Since we have struggled against our enemy without reservation what happened during the last war with jalaba that we began to call ourselves names like traitors,agents of jalaba et cetera? These words or expressions were not part of our characteristics in the first period of our struggle.Where does this behaviour come from? Are we losing our unity?Please be careful because the consequences will be devastating for the region of southern sudan.These hatred will be counter-productive.
The agreement which was reached with NCP was meant to bring peace to sudan and southern sudan in particular.This is my opinion.Now we are suppose to work towards protecting this agreement so that we arrived at independence of, when it happens, southern sudan.To me,the success of independence will depend on our behaviour and preparedness to think wisely and positively better than NCP.I believe that we are all southerners despite of the fact we have different political affiliations.Our aim must be south and not naming ourselves abusively.
If these abusive language and trends of discriminating and categorising ourselves, as such and such, continues, I’m afraid things may not work well as we wish them to be.
