South Sudan ruling party dismisses rumors over resignation of deputy chairman

December 23, 2009 (JUBA) – The Southern Sudan ruling political party, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has denied rumors published in a Khartoum-based Arabic daily alleging that the deputy chairman of the party had resigned.

The pro-National Congress Party (NCP) newspaper, Intibah, on Tuesday published that the Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan and deputy chairman of the SPLM, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, had resigned from the SPLM Political Bureau.

It continued to say that he was consulting with other political forces to declare his move by forming a different political party.

The party’s leadership in Juba immediately denied the allegations in a televised statement.

Dr. Luka Biong Deng, the minister for Presidential Affairs, who is a close aide to the President and the Vice President, said the rumors alleging Dr. Machar’s resignation was the work of anti-peace forces in the country.

Dr. Biong who said he had just finished talking on the phone with the party’s deputy chairman, who is currently on official duty to Khartoum, told the nation that in the words of Dr. Machar, these allegations were cooked by the enemies of peace trying to divert the attention from the main issues facing the country.

He added that Dr. Machar said the allegations were aimed against peace and unity of the people of Southern Sudan and of the SPLM as a political party.

Dr. Biong further explained that the Vice President was in Khartoum per the directive of the Southern Sudan President and SPLM chairman, Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, to follow up with issues in the CPA implementation.

It is not the first time that the Khartoum-based pro-NCP newspaper has published wild rumors about Southern Sudan leaders, particularly in the SPLM leadership and in the person of the deputy chairman.

Last year the same newspaper published allegations that the Vice President along with former minister of Roads and Transport, Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior and former SPLA Chief of General Staff, Gen. Oyai Deng Ajak, had embezzled millions of US dollars from the South and deposited them in Kenyan banks.

Dr. Machar decided to take the newspaper to the court of law in Khartoum over the allegation, of which case he won, after the court found that there was no evidence to prove the claim because the papers presented by the newspaper were found to be faked after verification.

The newspaper was, however, fined by the court with unsubstantial amount of money.

Some citizens in Southern Sudan are however skeptical about this repeated rumors picking on individual leaders by Intibah.

“I think these rumors find their origin internally from the South. There might be some people here in Juba who feed Intibah newspaper with false information against individual leaders for reasons only known to them,” said a student at Juba University who did not want his name mentioned.

Another business person who sells newspapers in Juba town and identified himself as Thomas Lado said the SPLM chairman should take up the issue of Intibah newspaper seriously with President Beshir because “this issue of deliberately trying to spoil the names of our leaders is unprofessional in journalism and should not be entertained.”

The Vice President is currently in Khartoum where he witnessed the passage of referendum laws for Southern Sudan and Abyei by the national parliament.

While it is highly unlikely that this could be true, I would have to say that there is no smoke without fire. If Riek is finally ready to split again, it will come as no surprise since he has been acting in a manner inconsistent of SPLM party position. Even if he were to split, he will only succeed in taking a section of Nuer community with him and nothing more. That will not guarantee his political survivability.

    Dear readers,

There are evil groups in NCP and SPLM who wish Dr. Machar to resign. The NCP group hate him for being a thorn in their ass on issues to independence of the South. Some SPLM based their hatred on jealousy and tribalism.

    JEALOUSY, JEALOUSY AND JEALOUSY!!

    Folks,

There is no smoke without any source. I never trust this militia leader guy Riek Machar. There is a possibility that Riek Machar might split the movement again. According to some sources here in Juba, there will be an Nuer convention that will take place next year in the Greatest Fangak land on March 26-28, 2010. Riek might use the convention to declare his defection from SPLM.

it will remain on rumoors but not in reality that our current SPLM second man on seat will not do the same as useless Dr Lam did that kind of exposer of disatifaction without taking notice of the consequence, what was co-chair in 1991 was a shortcoming to SPLM which was condemended world wide therefore i solemly believed that it will not repeat it self for this two cowards they have tasted bitterness of intergareting with our common enemy.

Rumor or conspiracy, the SPLM as a party should stand up against this devilish newspaper call (Intibah) which aimed to target and deform the reputation of South Sudan leaders, NCP is an illegal body in the Sudanese political life, a party of bunch of thieves and pervert individual whom came to power by looting the and sucking out the blood of innocents, to hell with NCP and their plot against Sudan and all Sudanese.

    Guys,

I know that many of you are not young boys. Some of you are old guys but pretending to write like small boys to confuse the readers that your opinions are not of those big people.

But let me remind you that the resignation of Dr. Riek Machar which you are yearning for it to happen would not be good for you. First, he is the one doing the implementation of the CPA and has achieved 95% of it.

Second, his resignation wouldn’t mean his end, but the beginning of your uncle losing leadership in Juba. Believe me, even if you resist, it would take your uncle three months to go to office. He would never see his office again!!! Or he may lose the office completely and some body else would sit there. They would be no terms of re-uniting again but complete defeat, whether militarily. The few military tanks you are driving without fuel have no use. Also, tanks without ground force to courageously defend them are no use. THINK ABOUT THAT!!!

We need each other. Don’t allow tribalism to control you. Dr. Machar’s achievements can not be denied because of jealousy that he is not from your tribe. The 1991 move was a blessing in disguise because it has brought to you the self-determination which we all know hope for it to take us to independence. Don’t ask for negative things that would NOT benefit you. South Sudan is for all of us. It is not a tribal kingdom. Thanks to Dr. Machar because he has successfully neutralized the mentality of forming a tribal kingdom which your likes were yearning for since 2005. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!!!

What ahell is this Nuer community is going, keep going. my words to Southerners keep your brave heart the days for referendum are soon clocking to zero.Leave this Riek Machar to go where he wish to fill his stomach which was cause of his defection in 1991.We don’t want people facing two routs every time to be our leaders, we need people who are tolerants to conditions and they don’t betrayed their follow citizens like what this hopless smile man doing. He is happy everytime because of being foolish.he is enjoying the site he have not fought for, but don’t give awords of appreciation to the liberators who gave him rest.what kind of animal is he? when will he stop his prostitution? He is like atoy in super market to attract people to buy clothes in this government of SPLM to attract NCP.

    “No smoke without fire’’

However we hope that the Nuer Community will think in critical mature manner and won’t blindly follow the mad man or the so called “DR’’ when he defects to the Arabs for second time.

This mad man together with his crazy friend Lam Akol are for their own self interests and Southerners especially the communities where these political prostitutes hails from will not tolerate Nyagatism at this crucial stage when the Southern Sudan is about to achieve its hard fought Independence.

They denied Southerners the opportunity of capturing Juba in 1991 when they defected to Khartoum based NIF regime whose hands was full of the blood of innocent Southern Sudanese children and women. One should wonder if these two political prostitutes, the so called Doctors were born to betray Southern Sudan whenever it is about to make progress in its struggle? The history of our armed struggle will always give affirmative to this question!

    Dear Readers

After Dr. Riek Machar enrolled all Dinka Bors in 1991 classes, that was the time every thing starts getting better with other southerners, while dinka Bors starting making sucide through plane crash because the son of man(Gat Raan)is taking over the power from terrorists tribe of Dinka bors.

My friends South Sudan is better off with Dr. Riek Machar and his cousins Greater Equatorians.

Then, South Sudan is better off without terrorists tribe of Dinka Bors leadership.

I believe when Son of man (Gat Raan)become the President of South Sudan, all Dinka Bors gonna die through sucide because of 1991 lesson that was taught to Dinka Bors by Nuer Warriors.

    Thank you all

    To Stupid Dakbai

If you have nothing to say with your shallow mind, you better shut up your mouth.

Get out here, idiot, whom do you think you are.

Nuer know that they have many P.H.D in their community.

you don’t need to tell them what to do.Mind your own business Mr. spupid Dinka Bor.

Nuer, Greater Equatorians, Shuluk, Murles and Dinka of Bhar El Ghazel are supporting Dr. Riek Machar for Presidency for only one reason.

The only son that Prophert NGunDeng promised to rule South Sudan and pullfill his job is Dr. Riek Machar, following by Dr. Riek Gai Kok, Gabriel Yoal Dok, Dr. Lam Akol and many others from Nuer and Greater Equatorians.

I do not think that the Southerners will afford to have a leader from Dinka bors, like John Garang who signed burning people lips into law in Rumbeck, if any one caught stealing cattle.

That is a terrorists act. Then, because Dr. John Garang came from terrorists tribe of Dinka Bor, he did such a kind of a crime that a human being can not do.

    Thank you all.
