Political tension erupts over parliamentary seats in Northern Bahr el Ghazal

By Ngor Arol Garang

December 27,2009(KHARTOUM) — Just as thousands of Northern Bahr el Ghazal Stat citizens filled local churches to celebrate Christmas break, acrimonies attributed to local politics sparking political tension, erupted over parliamentary seats for both state, Juba and national Assembly in Khartoum.

In one Payam yesterday on Saturday 26, allegedly reported to be home payam of the serving Governor Paul Malong, local ministers at the state government entered oral clash with incumbent Juba based Member of Parliament in an alliance with another local official who also works and lives in Juba challenging one another to meet required criteria for selection.

While local ministers who feel more literate, thinks it is appropriate to use their college education as one of the outstanding requirements, the other local officials also questioned their loyalty to the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement as all are vying parliamentary seats on southern ruling party.

“You could be qualified but this does not grant you complete authority and decision to choose where and how to represent local voices in the legislature,” said Hon. Akuei Ajou challenging one of the ministers to say whether he used to beat him during their primary education. “You know how I use to perform when we were studying together in years leading to eighties,” he commented.

In another constituency too, shared by two payams, Episcopal Church of Sudan Pastor, William Mou Deng, is reported to have declared his intention to step down from his pastoral position to vie for parliamentary seat in Juba come next General election.

The pastor who was quoted as saying, if successful, he would use his position as elected Member of Parliament to join government against the ongoing commitment to fighting graft.

In an opened discussion with members of his constituency and supporters alike, Mou said he decided to serve God through Parliament as requested by most members of his constituency.

He told the gathering that his decision came after his initial reluctance despite having been previously asked to run other positions on SPLM ticket. “I was giving chance to other people, because people do not become leaders the same ,but with consensus and approval,” he said.

The young aspiring candidate challenged his constituency members of Parliament in all three assemblies that they visit their rural areas only during important occasions and run away from what he described as backwardness, dust, mud and darkness after securing votes from local people only to appear again when wanting local supports.

“This is not good at all,” he said asking people to give him time to pray for the decision he has taken, but kept on asking that he would answer his promises towards the end of election period stressing he asked God to answer wishes of his community members.

He also admitted that he was initially scared of joining politics due to what he termed as bad reputation but later summoned courage to make the decision after getting God’s guidance.

Would you please let Mr, Akuei Ajou read my comment here.

Mr, Akuei Ajou. Do you want to act like your father.? If you are a wise person then, there is no need to bring the story of 24 years ago, that you have been beaten by that guy this is just like kid and if you are not stupid man then, you must say the word sorry or apologize for what you have mention. It seem to me that, you are showing your arrogant because you have got degree but that is not the case. Your father attitudes in the Sudan’s government are not needed at this time in Northern Bhar al Ghazal State and Southern Sudan as a whole. Don’t you listen to SPLA Youtub.com about your father was been challenge in the SPLA Songs, please stop your father’s boilogical attitudes.

Look at how some people in southern sudan are confused, they just thinks SPLM can accommodate any other person who hsa a degree to go and represent its in parliament.
Better check on your relationship with the party, how committed you are ? and follow the people’s calls this time but don’t think there will be appointment in this government again.

GONE ARE THOSE DAYS GONNE FOREVER
