Five S. Sudan soldiers, two pastoralists killed in gunfight in Lakes state

By Manyang Mayom

December 29, 2009 (RUMBEK) – Forces of the Southern Sudan army (SPLA) under local commander Colonel Mou Wol Lueth clashed with armed civilians in Akot payam of Rumbek East County on Monday afternoon, according to a county official. Five SPLA soldier were killed and eight wounded, while two pastoralists were also killed during the three hour gun battle.

The commander of the SPLA disarmament operation in the state, Colonel Mou Wol Lueth who is well known as Muoranyar, has been seriously wounded in both of his legs. The wounded people are admitted at Yirol West County hospital.

SPLA official Spokesman Maj-Gen. Kuol Deim Kuol said that their operations room confirmed that 5 soldiers were killed and 8 were wounded in the raids carried out by pastoralist inhabitants of Rumbek East County at the payam of Akot. One officer is among the dead, according to Kuol.

He said, “There were civilians carrying guns; they were not disarmed, they shot at our forces and these civilians belonged to Chief Dut Malual. Our forces were two platoons, they attacked them. Those civilians resist the disarmament. Then civilians organized an attack”.

Kuol noted that SPLA has since sent reinforcement forces to Akot and the situation is now calm. “These soldiers are carrying out disarmament in Lakes state and they are from the unit Division Five,” he said.

In separate incident in Juba yesterday evening, confirmed by Kuol, SPLA Sergeant Abraham Machar Mading quarrelled with his Kenyan girlfriend and killed at least three Kenyan nationals. This soldier took the gun of his colleague and used it to kill his girlfriend, then his left his gun in Mapel barracks.

“Abraham killed these innocent Kenyan civilians at Haj-Nyakama residential area in Juba on Monday,” the SPLA spokesman affirmed, saying that Southern Sudan leadership seriously condemned the killing of these Kenyans.

The dead were two men and a woman, reported the Kenyan Daily Nation. Two others were seriously wounded.

The sergeant, who is originally from Yirol West county of Lakes state, was undergoing academic training for non-commissioned officers at Mapel. “The leadership of the SPLA has condemned the act committed by the SPLA soldier and a court marshal is due to be formed to carry on an investigation and action must taken against this soldier if found guilty,” said Kuol.

The SPLA military police in the morning managed to arrest the culprit and he is now in custody at Juba’s Monki prison. The Commander-in-Chief, who is the President of the Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS), has ordered a military court marshal to immediately carry out an intensive investigation.

It is shameful, for civillians to resist disarmament. This coward, premitive Agar community brought shame to great Dinka for their evil acts.Leaders of these pastoralists must be brought to face justice to allow disarmament exercise to continue and if found guilty they must be fired in squard to be example to others who may resists. There is no laws with out forces thank.by anti-crime.

    Dear usless Nuer,

I think all of you will understand that we great Dinka do not cover ourselve for immoral act.
Our culture is the culture of correcting each other. See now we are condemning Dinka from Lake state because of their wrong doing.

I know if you were the one you would have said that yes Agar community or lake state did the right thing because they are defending themselves.
Second, nuer would have say this if lake state was like Ayod or bentiu that they are killing SPLA because it is their right and why they go to disarm them.
See this is how we calculate useless basless mind of your alikes.
    Thanks

Mr.Manyang, do not forward exaggrated reports into the website, you first need to witness the incident yourself before you post the news into the media. Are you sure five soldiers were killed in that battle? Do you know their names and their ranks? Please confirm the news properly again and never feed the nation with false reports that you cut and paste from wrong people.

Dear people of southern sudan am very sorry to these people of Lake state because they always kill themselves. I think the setback is with the governor, in every society where people are good, is the place where there is good governace. I don’t know why every minute pass by with decease (death).therefore we always complained about the decrease of population yet we know by ourselves.I think we are aware of what is going to take place in some months to come and that is non other than election, please my dear people let me request you to have patriotism in our own nation.

This is really nonsense , this sergeant Abraham mading should face full justice, how can he do such a stupid thing durin a celebration season? this are the kind of people who are causing damage to the reputation of south sudan and should be dealt with before its too late, he should fac court martial without delay, you cannot kil three innocent people at the same time, there shoult e decipline in this case, GOSS should compensate the relative of this idividuals and warn soldiers from fighting citizens with guns never again, girls and women need to know the kind of husband or boyfriend they go out with otherwise this will be the end results.

Something wrong with this community so call Dinka Agaar of Rumbek. I don’t know why war or riot always emerged in their areas?. I believe now that the reason why JUBA is became a Capitol City of Southern Sudan instead of Rumbek is because of such discrepencies happening in Rumbek.

Every month something happen by all mean especially something concerning about death. What do killing or lossing of those five SPLA soldiers mean to this Dinka Agaar Community? It is a shame to Agaar Community if they are not refraining from doing such mischievious things to themselves. LORD HAVE MERCY!!!!!!!

Sorry to write to this issue so late, but from my very remote position in the USA, it seems that Omar al-Bashir and his henchmen must be clapping their hands with joy at what is happening in Lakes State. Every person killed, every person displaced, means that there will be less people to vote for independence. With more confusion caused by this kind of violence, there will be questions raised in people’s minds about whether the Southern Sudanese are even capable of governing themselves.

In 1985, the Southern Sudanese came together to fight a very successful war against the North. If you do not come together as one people, you will lose everything you have gained. Wake up, people!

    James 3:18
“And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.”
