SPLM ends nomination of candidates in Sudan

By Ngor Arol Garang

January 5, 2010 (KHATOUM) –The leadership of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) today confirmed ending of the nomination of candidates aspiring for parliamentary and executive seats as state governors across the country.

In an interview with the head of the SPLM national election strategy campaign committee, Mr. James Wani Igga, who wears another hat as Speaker of the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly, said SPLM nomination which has been on since December 01 ends today on fifth of January 2010.

“Our teams in various states and towns across the country stopped receiving new names from aspiring candidates on SPLM tickets,” he said.

Asked challenges about encountered by team members in various states in Sudan particularly those in South Sudan, he said committees deployed to various states of Southern Sudan never reported lots of challenges.

However, he made mention of the time during period leading to closure of the official nomination on December 31 in 2009.

Our teams in the field from various states and towns in the country officially wrote to SPLM headquarters and leadership reporting time limit as they were still getting candidates in huge numbers toward the end of last year but that was settled by granting additional five days which took them through first of January to fifth, he said.

After grant of the extension, there has never been any other concern apart from high competition among members, he adds.

But Igga said this was also settled by SPLM offices in various places through calling upon individual contestants to discuss and make decisions about who should allow who to run on SPLM tickets.

“Many cases have been settled through concession and we are glad most of the aspirants were able to concede contesting against another,” he said.

He said the case in question was in Northern Bahr el Ghazal where an aspirant approached him this afternoon in Juba to share him decision he took while at home to concede position to other candidates.

“Such people show their allegiance to the party and as the party we will make sure they are given where to continue serving the party,” he commented.

Igga also said SPLM political bureau, the highest body in the party hierarchy, will have to meet to decide names of those contesting on SPLM ticket in various states in the country and Southern Sudan in particular.

“Their names will be made public no later than 14 January 2010 after thorough discussions from political bureau,” he said.

Earlier, Speaker Igga said, SPLM has formed Electoral College offices in each of the ten southern states. The electoral complex committee is made up of 25 members looking into all process of application procedures, he said.

This acts as first screening body without allegiance and bias before forwarding nominations to the national committee before submitting them for final screening to political bureau.

In the political bureau made up of only 27 members including Chairman of the party, he said SPLM members in the party looks into personalities, educational backgrounds, period of service in the SPLM, loyalties to the party and other criteria to select only one candidate for the state, he explained.

Most of these guys who are seeking re-election in 2010 are all nothing, but thugs and political prostitutes who are driven by power-greed and individual self-ambition. If they are not shameless, what have they done for the last five years since the signing of the CPA, apart from stealing public’s money for self-empowerment and prostitution? Only God knows the fate of marginalized masses of the South.

Mr,Wani Igga,It is clear that there are some of you who are interested in taking us back.It has never happened that you decide for somebody.

That political bureau is a threat to peace in the South because it will soon give birth to some thing strange and you people will regret. This I know happened when the governor of Unity State,Taban Deng Gai went for a meeting in Juba late last year and they plus you coined theses things to act as blocking stones to Riek Machar and Nguen Manytuil.

If you people take Taban’s evil ideas as the best ones then you guys will fail in every thing and South will never be called a nation.Taban is an arab who is in the South for business purpose-son of unknown in Unity State!

SPLM ends nomination of candidates in Sudan and leave it for the people to elect
Dear readers, especially Southern Sudan People

    Mr. Honorable Speaker,

How many times you heard people talking a lot of bad news about your Southern Sudan government?

How can Southern citizens exercise their choice to pick whose they see can make change and challenge for the country?

Even though this time I was your supporters for the greatest job you always doing, but today I feel sorrow for the statements of you for stating that SPLA will decide to select the names of the contestants. Why don’t you allow each and everyone to exercise their ability?

For example Eastern Equatoria, once ago in a meeting His Excellency Louis Lobong told the students of the states that he will be fighting with the governor his Excellency Alliseo Ojetuk for the state governor at coming election.
What Mr.Lobong said in general was accepted by the entire state citizens. Feather he explained the idea of fighting to the citizen that their fights with Mr.Ojetuk will not be with guns or hands, but it will be with words and actions of change for the state. And he added that the changes which will take place in southern Sudan will never come by appointee governors, but the changes will overcome by the elected governors by the people of southern Sudan.

    Mr. Speaker,

How many times you heard some silly words in Juba about the GOSS, here are some for the state of Eastern Equatoria States streets:GoSS:

    Government of Self Selfish

    Government of Self Satisfaction

    Government of Self Satisfactory

    Government of Small Salaries

    Government of Sick Services

    Government of Sick Security

    Government of Salvakiir Sides

    Government of Slowly systems

All these Mr. Speaker apply in our government of Southern Sudan. It is time for the people of Southern Sudan to choose whom they seem can change and make developments in the country.

Really what you state will never bring changes to Southern Sudan; in fact it will make the country worst than before. Why? Because you trying to keep the same corrupt people like you by now.

Secondly, you trying to keep the secret of the corruptions to remained silence for keeping corrupt in their place. And now it clear that SPLM is using dictatorship government.
It is really good to appreciate what the SPLM Politicians done so far, the questions remaining in the upcoming elections.

    Honorable,

Being the head of MPs and the SPLM group as to nomination, you should gave a chance to some else, why holding too many positions while there is others who can take care of the nominations. Some members and myself still don’t believe that you will be fair to them. Please honorable we need changes and that changes will come for the people, if don’t consider the people at the first place, so who can you rules?

    Speaker,
By saying nomination process within the SPLM party only not in other parties is another tension in the South. Always I disagree with those whose forming a new parties while we still have a problems with our number ONE enemy Khartoum government. It is now clear why those people are doing, and because of the chance which they are not getting force them to do so.

I hope one of your members will tell you about what really concern the people of southern Sudan if they really following the news with ST, then probably you will change the ideas of selecting candidates and leave for the people to elect who they WANT!

Peace Maker and Peace Lover 2010.
