N. Bahr el Ghazal governor holds election rally

January 6, 2010 (AWEIL) — Maj. Gen. Paul Malong Awan, incumbent governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State (NBGS), held a rally Tuesday, January 5, at the state’s Freedom Square where supporters chanted and shouted in support of the governor.

The rally came two days after another gubernatorial hopeful, Maj. Gen. Dau Atourjong, submitted his application in the presence his own supporters.

A sympathetic observer estimated the turnout to be more than 60,000 people. The supporters, drawn from state’s five counties, comprised chiefs, spear masters, intellectuals, businessmen and women, politicians, women and youth groups, among others, which gathered in Aweil Town to witness the submission of Governor Paul’s application for the governor’s position.

The turnout was meant as a show of support beyond the required figure of 5000 signatories needed to endorse a hopeful for the gubernatorial position. After submitting his application, Governor Paul thanked the masses for their support, called for unity of the SPLM Party, promised more development for the state and assured citizens of strict preservation of law and order in the state.

“One top reason for popular support for Governor Paul Malong is tight security that Northern Bahr El Ghazal State continues to enjoy,” said Sabrino Majok Majok, a supporter. “As he promised upon his appointment for NBGS gubernatorial position that State security would be his government number one priority, Governor Malong has since then ensured commendable security in a way unparalleled by any of his counterparts in Southern Sudan. Additionally, Governor Malong has also received public admiration and trust due to numerous developmental projects which his government is undertaking”.

The final decision rests squarely with SPLM State Electoral College currently doing the screening of applications and the SPLM Interim Political Bureau which will make a final decision and endorsement for the party ticket.

The candidate that i really want is the one who can protect his people from insecurity. Moreover, the one who is really far away from Ncp will.

My Southerneners, we are impatient in our leadership candidatcy. Every state is complianing about the governor which shows that we are impatient.

Malong might win not because he is favorable, but of so-called electoral college. Gen. Dau is more favorable and less corrupted, but system is completely against him. If citizens were given a chance to vote freely, there is chance Gen. Dau will prevail. Now with this well-organize-hand-pick, Aweil will still stick with this mother of corruption: Malong Awan. Malong Awan is great friend of Kiir and most of his circle that will decide on candidates. The likelihood of losing is outright impossible.

I appreciate your make up stories, because at meantime you are so hungry for Dr Riek’s position. I am not trying to insult you but I want to describe you just according to the way you act. Are you a dog or cat that smile invisible things? what evidences suggest to your mind that Dr Hero Riek is planning to create his own party. A man that has been in SPLA since 1984 up to date, how can he form his own party at the gate of democracy. Do you think he is not happy with his position in GOSS? remember that make up stories are the worse reports, they are the enemies of peace, unity, love and they make people think apart. Stop childish behaviours.

i am very unhappy when i heard areporter i ssuming the total of the Attendance that it was over 60,000 people , you have to witness and make sure you give a correct figure ,when you ar suportng you need to use your main of suport but don,t over assum, gen. malong is the man of Security ,since his arrival to Aweil there was only one to two clush fighting but Gen .malong to stopped that ,

the below are the weakness that we don,t want malong to repeat when he over come the election

01, power sharing , not only abiem to be employeed in all of the positions as if Aweil is belong to those being employeed .

02.sharing of resource . Not only aweil east Can be developed as they get net work going on the main roads and bridge are completed main while others are out o access to the conty E.G Aroya is the one of most neglected place in NBG .

Gen. Malong Tried his level best better than the former two Governors who prevousely rulled NBG in term of development and security within the state Capital and Aweil east particulary .

    Thanks

it is very sad news to hear that this predator (sex offender)called malong awan had rally such a huge number of people.however, the blame is going to some aweil intellectuals who are blind by self-interest leaving poor people who are desprate need better services from them.we do not have tribal conflict among us like in other states ,what security did malong provided to aweil people?.we have contributed a lot in movement and there no reason our security should be left to us, there no reason that incompete person could be kept to aweil people because of insecurity of enmy, goss needs to takeover the security of its citizen like any goverment does in world, security should not be a justification to let our resources be stolen by this individual who has more than 75 wives. aweil is not a welfare for malong family.
