Minister for South Sudan army involves in controversial nomination contest
January 11, 2010 (JUBA) – A controversial nomination contest involving the South Sudan minister for SPLA Affairs and his opponent threatens occurrence of violence in Tonj South County of Warrap state.
Agei who claimed to have won the nomination by the 25 member Electoral College in Warrap state, said Lt. Gen. Nhial Deng’s group have forged a letter purportedly written by the community of Tonj South County voicing their choice for Nhial Deng.
He said the issue has brought confusion in the County’s nomination process, arguing that the letter was forged and written by an individual – not the community – and warned that it may create confusion and possible splitting of SPLM and inviting insecurity in the constituency.
“I have rejected the letter; it is a forged letter, dangerous and provocative to elections. Now many of [my] supporters at the grass root are unhappy, and this will make people to go on rampage,” he said.
Agei further explained that he was the choice of the people because he was more popular in the constituency than Nhial Deng, describing the letter as propaganda to give his political contestant an advantage over him.
He said the controversy was designed in a way that will make the SPLM Political Bureau members have chance to finally pick Nhial Deng, their long time serving colleague in the Political Bureau, and ignore the choice of the people in the constituency.
Agei said the letter is “dangerous and provocative” to the majority of the people in the County and may create tensions.
He warned the Warrap state Electoral College and the SPLM Political Bureau in Juba not to consider the forged letter.
SPLM DELAYS IN NOMINATION OF TOP CANDIDATES
SPLM is racing with dateline to nominate its candidates across the country. Each state selects 25 members of Electoral College that in turn nominate a number of candidates for each seat and send their names to the SPLM Political Bureau in Juba to finally select one candidate for a seat.
The party is yet expected to announce on January 14 names of its final candidates across the Sudan.
It is difficult to predict who will emerge the final candidates for the top seats in the controversial selecting processes.
There are however speculations that the party’s deputy Secretary General for Northern Sector, Yasir Arman, is recommended to the Political Bureau by the Elections Strategy Committee, led by the SPLM second deputy chairman, James Wani Igga, to be the SPLM candidate that will contest for the position of presidency against President Omer Hassan Al-Bashir and other opposition parties’ candidates.
The SPLM Secretary General, Pagan Amum is also speculated to have been recommended to contest for the seat of the Governor in Khartoum state, the national capital.
Malik Agar , the party’s third deputy chairman will contest for governorship in his home state, Southern Blue Nile.
The speculations are silent about the party’s candidate for the position of the President of the Government of Southern Sudan, though Salva Kiir is a likely candidate.

SPLM as a political party or need to change its nomination process. because its similar to the British parlementary system, whereby person could hold two constitutional posts at the same time. and that is a recipe for politcal choes, as illustrated by the accussation against the Minister of SPLA afafirs LT. Gen Nhial Deng Nhial, that he might have cheated his way into being favorite during the nomination process. so my point is adopted the American nomination process, in which party members contesting a seat, would go directly before their constituents ( or voters of that particular area) in which the eventual winner for the general election could claimed (his or her) ligitimacy before the people. It also gave them the legitmacy or mandate since, that victory comes directly from people.

Dear brothers and sisters,
Southern Sudan is in greater problem because we are not patience at all in every thing. Even the people are contesting in SPLM milirary affairs, that is completely complicated according to my observation.
The priority that will make Southerners loss their struggle is the admission of the traitors who care for their own lives leave alone others,and the power greedies base on tribal lines. I can see now we struggle for just of it.Anyway, we will get our independent-South Sudan,but it will be a fail still if still some tribe like Nuer get pride because of their stealing method of attacking innocents people across Sudan.
The real governomet can not divide the open position base on tribal line. That is wrong because some in ability rulers will still make mess since we know that not every body or society has leadership style.
I can see now that the GOSS want to please other tribe base on offering them ajob,but they will still remain thieves.The leadership is base on skills that can be prove,yet anybody can be a leader base on the distribution ofjob base on tribe. People like that are really lack since people like me are not in the highers rank to decide on this kind of wrong leadership style.
Please i can say that any body who want to defect because he did not get ajob must go to where he likes.
We get to be patient and not after our leaders at the moment. We have prove ourselves how we are to international community, to Khartoum governmnet and the rest through bribing, killing of innocent people , and political prostitutions.
I wise the food lovers will be given amonth with Muonjang so that we can reduced their stealing method that they use and thinking that as their prouding game. Hit and run like rat is unexceptable. Aman can stay firm and wait.
