January 15, 2010 (RUMBEK) – The Government of Lakes state received three ambassadors on Tuesday at Rumbek airstrip, those of Indonesia, Korea and India. The state authorities on Thursday took the diplomats on a tour of an eastern part of the state, in Yirol West County which is 75 miles away from the state capital Rumbek.

The state government since its creation in 2005 has been trying to encourage investors to build up this poor state but it has been hard for the state authorities to break through the barrier thrown up by insecurity.

Initially the delegation was received by Deputy Governor and Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement, Lt-Col. David Nok Marial. The state government authority briefed the three diplomats’ men on the state’s security situation and ensure three diplomats that the situation is normal despite that Akot of Rumbek East County remains an unhealthy part.

The ambassadors also visited Rumbek Senior Secondary School, Rumbek hospital, the state power station and then proceeded to Yirol West County of Lakes state to see the investment possibilities.

The deputy governor estimated that the number of unauthorized firearms carried by civilians is over ten thousand; he called for immediate disarmament to be done on timeframe as planed by Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) headquarters.

If leadership of Lakes State be headed by young people like Engineer Chol Tong Mayay who is the most competent man in term of development and welfare of the people, then there will be no hunger, corruptions, nepotism and tribal fights in Lakes State. He was the last man to joint Awet’s cabinets in 2008 and became the first man to built ministry of Agriculture where he was appointed as minister.
Lakes State has so many resources but need people who can manage and investment it so that its people can benefit from their resources.
