UN envoy to quit Sudan next February
January 19, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – The United Nations Secretary General’s Special Representative in Sudan, Ashraf Qazi, will step down from his post at the end of February 2010, a press release announced.
Qazi was appointed on September 4, 2007 to replace Jan Pronk, who had expelled in October 2006 after angering Khartoum for ‘openly intruding in the armed forces’ by reporting army defeats in troubled Darfur on his personal website.
The U.N. Mission in Sudan, known as UNMIS, supervises the peacekeeping operation of some 10,000 personnel in south Sudan, established after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed on January 9, 2005 between the Sudanese government and the former rebel SPLM/A.
During the two years, Qazi succeed to calm relations between the Mission and the Sudanese government despites some frictions with the federal and the semi-autonomous governments in Khartoum and Juba.
“UNMIS support and technical expertise have played a vital role in keeping the Agreement on track thanks to Mr Qazi’s leadership that kept the Mission focused of the mandate,” the Khartoum based mission said in a statement today.
He leaves the mission at a time when the CPA implementation is firmly moving forward towards elections and the referendum.
Prior to his appointment as SRSG in Sudan in late 2007, Mr Qazi served as the UN Secretary General’s Special representative for Iraq.

am not seeing the reasons as to why he will step down from his post at the end of February.And what are his legislatures in Sudan?
Therefore I may say thanks to Mr.Ashraf Qazi for his follow up the CPA which was signed on 2005.Great thanks to dear leaders of Southern Sudan for their commitments they have shown to Mr.Qazi,but Ahraf don’t forget to assist those who will come in power.

I can wait to hear that the NCP envoy has gone to hell, this Egyption man could not descended in the land of South Sudan because Dr John Garang, maded very clearly that he doesn’t want any Eygption people to be a part of CPA observers in South, due to their prejudice position toward NIF.
however he chosed the State of Bangladish in Nafashia to take that position a something was approved but people in the part didn’t honor that.
anyhow Ashrop Qazi, had attempt to do what ever he could but he fail because of SPL Oyeeeeee forces.

The biggest problem facing UN right now is corruption, the current leaders of UN especially in humanitarian affairs and peacekeeping are big big corrupt and dishonest individuals, Ban Ki Mon should send someone from a neutral country which has no history of corruption.
