Don’t quote Dr. Lam out of context

By Dr. James Okuk

January 19, 2010 — I think the title of the news that quotes Dr. Lam Akol as opposing immediate secession of South Sudan is misleading and uncontextualized. Let’s look critically into the core statement of Dr. Lam: “Under the present weak government in the south, calling for secession would be suicide.” The most important phrase here is: “Under the present weak government in the south” and most important question here is: Why would secession of South Sudan be a suicide under Kiir bad rule? You don’t need to be a nuclear scientist to get Dr. Lam’s message and the sense of answers he provided as a justification for his concern and warning about the current worrying status quo in the South.

The UN and NGOs working in South Sudan have already voiced similar concerns and warnings. In other words, Dr. Lam is saying that for South Sudan Independence to be viable, we need a change of leadership of the current GoSS. We have got informed that Dr. Lam aspiring through elections to be that leader of change in the GoSS, backed by a Alliance of South Sudan Political Parties. What else do you want to make out of Dr. Lam’s sincere statement?

From my point of view, Dr. Lam is damn right because no one can deny that we are seeing many bad things happening in the South now under Kiir leadership. We want an independent South Sudan born as successful state; not as a fail state with failed SPLM Kiir leadership. No more and no way! The people of South Sudan have to wisely choose between: 1) having a an independent “banana state” with wrong leaders sitting on public offices and stealing development money in Juba and the capitals of other corrupt states in the South; or 2) having an independent “rock state” (even if this comes later than early) with right leaders for the job who don’t embezzle public fund for development and services and who don’t practice tribalism in job offers for qualified citizens of South Sudan.

Don’t quote Dr. Lam out of context; his message is prophetic to be ignored; otherwise many Southerners could cry in future saying: Oh if only we could listen to Dr. Lam’s warning and heeded to his wise advice not to rush for independence of South Sudan lead by those who wear SPLA uniform illegally when they have been retired already and who act unconstitutionally and are ready to kill their own Southern brothers in order to save Northern political dinosaurs. So, let my people choose wisely or else they continue crying as if they were born to suffer.

Don’t you think its very ironic that an Omer bashir who is an Arab and who is funding Lam Akol is supporting the free and voluntary independence of south sudan and promise to lend support, meanwhile Dr Lam akol who is a southerner is rejecting to set his people free? does this really make sense? Lam akol has lost his mind, How does lam akol feel when his Arab master say yes to independence ? a well respected NCP member told an SPLM member that NCP doe snot trust Dr Lam akol and they think he is a man of no principles due to his conflicting ideas and lack of patriotism, he said that is why NCP never offered a high job to Lam akol but instead just decided to give him money so he can form his own party, he said the NCP leaders think Lam akol is selfish and has self ego, now do you think this is good when Arabs who give you money are going around and talking such nonsense behind your back? the man needs mental hopital help, he just put the last nail on his own coffin.

Where do you think Lam gets money even the one he sends to you in Brazil? he is milking NCP and the master Bashir has changed strategy without inform you that, the weave for the independent of Southern Sudan is inevitable and we should also work for it.

Damn chicken headed men, you are left and the boat sailing for freedom and independent of Southern Sudan has left.

    Okuk,

If you and Lam talked about weak government in South Sudan, does that deny us our independent? I think we can still change the government after the referendum.

James Okuk, we will qutoes all the comments and articles you and your uncle Lam Akol have been saying since all your wars are fought on Sudan tribune website. You and your uncle are not really good nationals of South Sudan you have destoyed the image of South Sudan domestically as well as in the eyes of the international community. You and your uncle Lam were the once causing instabillity and insecurity of Southern Sudan in the innterest of your friend the Northern Arab NCP. We all knew that a friend of your enemy is your enemy.
We as South Sudanese patriots will never never forgive You. I think South Sudan will not be like Somalia as war in Somalia are jihad wars against non Islamist, the islamist want to govern Somalia with Islamic sharia law which most of the communities in Somalia don’t want.

The war in South Sudan , Sorry i meant the conflict in South Sudan are minor conflicts that does not include religion as the basis of conflict in our beloved country of South Sudan. I also prophesied that South Sudan will not be like Somalia when it achieved its full independent in the forth coming referrandum.

    Mr. Okuk,
Trying to correct or put words into Lam’s mouth can’t change the facts the People of South Sudan know about Lam’s political views. Lam has been and will remain the arch enemy of our march to freedom. He is the instrument of anarchy and tribal conflict in Upper Nile.

We know that under the current government in South Sudan, there is no so-called secession process as we are all aware. The referendum is not a secession but a right for the People of South Sudan to decide their future. But Lam with his malicious intention termed this process a ” secession”. After all, the referendum in the South will be conducted by an elected government of the People of South Sudan in 2011. Hence the will of the People will reign not the prophets of doom. We will prove all of you wrong.

    Okuk,
Dr. Lam put his foots on his mouth and he’s the one to blame, not the people who are airing their views. In addition, there is nothing that you can do to clarify what he meant. Everyone read what he said and it’s very clear.
