The State and urban roads contracts amount to over $320,000 supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through its funding to the south Sudan Infrastructure Services Project (SISP), being implemented and supervised by the Louis Berger Group, Inc. as training contracts to build up the contracting industry in south Sudan.

Giving the breakdown of the contracts during an interactive session for the contracts at the LBG office in Juba Wednesday, LBG Site Engineer, Eng Babu Emmnauel Kwori, disclosed that “the State and urban road contracts are in four categories cutting across four states of the autonomous south Southern Sudan Region.”

These, according to him, include the 10 km section along Kwajok-Wau road for the total strengthening of the existing State awarded to Warrap Women Centre Company at the rate of $80,000 American dollars, rehabilitation of Aweil town urban road 10 km in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State awarded to Geerdit Sons & Daughters at rate of $80,000.

Others include the rehabilitation of the Wau Urban road 10 km in Western Bahr El Ghazel state contracted to Teng Teng Transporters and Contractors at the rate of $80,000 and rehabilitation of Rumbek Urban Road 10 km in Lakes States awarded to Pashong for Investment for $80,000.

This is the first training contracts awarded to these states for Labor-based Local Contractors, this year. Many more are to follow.

STATUS

According to Eng Babu, “The contracts have been signed and the actual work will soon commence once the first allocation of payment is made to the local contractors.”

The Local Contractors were trained last year in Kisi Kenya, with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This first contract serves as the first on-job training contract for the states Local contractors.

As a consequence for the 22 year civil war which devastated southern Sudan; roads and bridges were gravely destroyed, leaving road communications dilapidated in the region.

Peter Bull is Managing Director (MD) of Pashong for Investment; he says “[I] am more than happy to be part of the economic growth of Southern Sudan, and ready to do the work.”

Ring Kom – MD for Geerdit Sons & Daughters echoes the promising statement of his colleagues, he adds that, “it is an excellent opportunity for his company, and he and his colleagues shall endeavor to meet the deadline set forthwith for the signed contracts.

The enormous road construction recovery program these four states is geared towards completion by May 2010.

    Dear Readers,

Kiir Miyerdit already declared he ONLY wanted to build Bahr El Ghazal region since 2004. This is exactly doing now and been doing this for the last five years. Look at the poorest Warrap State.

Gatwech, You are right. Don’t pay no mind to these political idiots. Your superior analytical, writing and intelligent judgement is the cause for jealousy among these tribalist idiots. Just take this from “Splm general command meeting in 2004, in Rumberk crisis”

Kiir Miyerdit: ” People of Bahr El Ghazal have suffered too much from repeated famine and from the Arab militias – and for these reasons I am the first to embrace peace to relief them from suffering”. Correction: It was all south sudan that suffered, not Bahr El Ghazal alone. What a Foolish leadership!! Can you believe this guy is a president of south sudan today, instead of a village chief of Akon, Warrap State which suited him so well?

CDR Oyai was in shock about Salva Kiir’s short-sighted politics restricted only to Bhar El Ghazal region!! “I am shocked to hear Cdr. Salva talk here only about Bahr El Ghazal and not the South in general given he is a leader for all”:- Oyai Deng Ajack.

Kiir & Luka Biong Deng would NEVER make effective leadership decisions for all, other than their usual rant of tribalist-mentality. Therefore, they are doomed to fail. ONLY political idiots do not understand this as you rightfully stated!!

I’m happy that BROSS was not included. Very experience company with poor knowledge of road construction. Look at those roads constructed by them, they get damaged in less than 6 months.

I think there are individuals taking lion share in that company, that’s why they continue awarding it.

Well it is coming to an end soon, my company is coming to replace, known as “KOOK DOOR INVESTMENT COMPANY”.

Dear Sudanese, why do we bring topics which are irrelevant to this website. can we learn how to appreciate our donors for what they do? All we need to hear about his war, politics and death.

These feeder road projects are not for big contract, the news is very clear ‘Local based Contrators” doing training contratcs.

The writer of this articles is trying his best to bring developmental news to us here yet you divert from that to your hatret. Imagine Ministry of Transport and Roads in GOSS is the second in budget allocation, when we hear news of roads construction it is opening ecomomic recovery for Sudanese people.

To our MTR, USAID, Louis Berger Group and Local contractor, if at all you read our comments, we appreciate every dollar being spent on the Sudanese people.

To the American people we need more, though we receive with cautions.
