Sudan electoral board issues list of W. Equatoria candidates

February 1, 2010 (YAMBIO) – The National Election Commission of Sudan
(WES) on Sunday made public the names of the candidates on general
seats of National Assembly, GOSS assembly and Governors from Western
Equatoria state whose nominations have been approved by the
commission.

The announcement has given Western Equatoria five candidates for WES’s
highest post of governorship – Col Joseph Bakosoro (Independent),
Jemma Nunu Kumba (SPLM – the incumbent), Natale Ukuele, (Independent),
Awad Kisanga (NCP) and Abass Ajalah Bullen Bambey – UDSF.

Political pundits in Western Equatoria state say Col Joseph Bakosoro
and Jemmma Nunu Kumba are the favorites to pull the winning trigger.

During the scrutiny of nomination papers from December 2009 to January
2010, over 500 papers were passed, while the confirmation of approved
candidates including party lists and Independent candidates were
approved.

The final lists of the candidates were released after thorough
scrutiny. According to the lists, some 279 candidates would contest
the National Assembly seats of the GONU and the two provincial
assemblies of GOSS and state respectively.

Seven Women list for national assembly from four political parties names
include; Veronica Luis Renzi Tambura SPLM, Ketura Yona Ngbara SPLM,
Zeinab Sapana Ibrahim Jambo NCP, Dahia Bullen Saeed Fadalmulla NCP,
Javana Luka Joseph Kparasiro SSDF, Margret Mathew Zuno SPLM/DC and
Ditta Zachariah Ganinga SPLM/DC

Three Party list for National assembly 1-Morris Taban Yona Odrawa NCP 2-,
Pasquel Clement Batal Yura SPLM, 3-Peter Pasquel Tunguo Mingbe SPLM DC

35 Candidates for Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly scrutinized from
various parties.

Eight women for South Sudan Assembly amongst others Jasmine Samuel Adakayi
Satti SPLM, Vosca Martin Kumborani Enoka SPLM, and Joice Barnaba
Abdalla Gagu

Six for South Sudan Party List: Ngere Paciko Joseph Tagodo SPLM, George
Costa Faustino George SPLM, Dr Gasim Barnaba Kisanga NCP, Venson May
Silvas Gaitano SANU, Joseph Richard Mbuka Ndaru UDF and Martin Tako
Moyi Tako UDSF.

123 candidates for State assembly Geographical constituencies and 28
independent candidates

48 from women list for state Assembly

41 Part list for WES State Assembly

Disgruntled candidates have been 7 days exhibition for complains and
allegations against the accepted candidates thereafter campaign begins
mid February 2010.

The April polls are seen as crucial in the implementation of CPA and a
road-map of transition of democracy in Sudan – with many independents
lining up to challenge the ruling the parties and Independent
candidates are threatening to rise above the SPLM, there is no doubt
of competitive elections come April 2010.
