SPLM Political Bureau discusses Kiir-Taha meeting about elections

February 1, 2010 (JUBA) – The highest political body of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) began its meeting in Juba on Monday to discuss the recent meeting between the party’s chairman Salva Kiir Mayardit and Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, deputy chairman of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP).

Taha came to Juba on Sunday and held a closed door meeting with Kiir and discussed issues mainly to do with the upcoming April general elections in the country.

Among the expected issues the Bureau shall discuss would include the request by the NCP, urging the SPLM to withdraw its candidate for the position of the President of Republic and endorse the incumbent President and NCP chairman Omer Hassen Al-Bashir.

The SPLM Secretary General Pagan Amum also told the press that the Political Bureau meeting would tackle the fate of party’s members who have declared themselves as independent candidates against the Bureau’s nominated colleagues for such positions or seats.

So far seven states out of the ten states in the South have independent candidates who are members of the SPLM and have declared to contest for the position of governor in their respective states.

These states that have declared independent candidates for the position of governor include Central Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria, Western Equatoria, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile states.

Warrap state was reported to have a declared independent candidate, the incumbent deputy governor, but was also said to have been convinced to reverse the decision.

Other two states that have not declared independent candidacy include Western Bahr el Ghazal and Lakes state.

It is also widely believed that hundreds of SPLM independent candidates have declared their intention to run for the parliamentary seats at the national, Southern Sudan and states levels.

Pagan Amum said it was a violation of the party’s rules by those who declared themselves as independent candidates.

Amum however earlier said the issue whether or not the independent candidates would be allowed to contest by the party was not resolved on by the recent Political Bureau meetings during the nomination process.

Independent candidates argued that the party’s Political Bureau’s nomination of candidates was “unpopular” because it was mostly done against the choices of the people in the constituencies concerned.

Pagan Amum is drunkard that fails the SPLM. As secretary, he does nothing rather than showing his red-eye in every TV and his incompetence has help to bring the most popular party in South Sudan “SPLM” to its knee. Can someone please tell this drunkard-ass to shut-up?

Whoever seem not to be complying to SPLM Political Bureau is simple to be shown the door out from the party.

Declarng of independency against the SPLM nominations defection away from the SPLM rule. and regulations. If you don’t believe to SPLM party degree of nomination then you are declaring any 1991 defection and that wouldn’t affect the party either so don’t be saying you want to chellenge the SPLM’s nominations.

Please resign from the SPLM party as every candidate had to resigned from the militery. Good luck with your independency if you failed.

Ncp has no right to make compliant about SPLM presidency candidate because the interest was the choice of SPLM. If they are complaining about Yasir Arman then they should be the first to withdraw Al Bashier and after that SPLM will decide to with draw Yasir Arman. Please NCP is idiots who can not reasons.

Anyway, I agree with Pagan Amum because the intention of independent against governors is not more than hunting for money. This independent candidates are only base on the tribal choice and that was the reason they were niminated to fulfil the tribal interest while lots of them are not loyal to SPLM. For example, there is one independent candidate Who works for SPLM-DC from Western Equatoria who want to contest governor Nuru Jemma-the respected woman who works hard days and nights for the country-South because of money, but not because he is loyal to the party.

This independent candidates are playing tribal interest let alone the works that will make the South to be anation. Let wait when we get our independent South and latter forms any party of our choice.
    Thanks

    Dear independent candidates,

This is the only chance that God has given you and if you don’t make good use of it you will soon regret.

Please be as strong as ever and believe in your consciences.
If others can do why not you?
