South Sudan delegation fails to persuade NBGS independent candidates to desist
By Ngor Arol Garang
February 10, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — A high level delegation from Southern Sudan neighboring Warrap State headed by the incumbent governor, Tor Deng Mawien has reluctantly admitted failing to convince independent candidates led by General Dau in the State of Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
On Tuesday 09, a delegation comprising of top officials from the government of South Sudan arrived Aweil town, the state capital of Northern Bahr el Ghazal with GOSS presidential message calling on General Dau, a gubernatorial aspirant in the area to consider dropping off the race in favor of incumbent governor Malong Awan.
Members of the delegation include government of South Sudan presidential advisor on SPLA affairs, Lt General Salva Mathok Geng, former state minister of agriculture in the government of national unity, Aleu Ayeny Aleu among others.
Honorable Deng Thiep Akok said a delegation purportedly sent by President of the government of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit came yesterday on Tuesday, carrying nothing than what he described as “monotonous message requesting us (independent candidates) to drop off intention to contest in the upcoming elections for various positions including gubernatorial seat”.
“We have met and unequivocally told them our stance that we have already submitted our applications to run as independent candidates in the upcoming April polls and that it is not possible to reconsider our positions,” he said.
“They do not seem to understand and continue to hold meetings and meetings with us since yesterday”; he said adding there are only two options: Allowing them to stand independently or convince the other group to drop off the race in their favor.
He further stated they do not understand why pressure is mounting on them to accept stepping down and not the other groups.
“I do not understand why an innocent group in reference to his company is bothered; they should be talking to those who made us resort to this decision,” he said.
However, a member of Warrap delegation, Aleu Ayeny says they are not in Aweil to impose any decision on any of the two parties, but felt necessity to assist them get out of impasses for betterment of people of Northern Bahr el Ghazal citizens and SPLM as a party.
“We know there were mistakes but such resorts are also not part of the settlement. The leadership of the SPLM is fully aware of these mistakes that occurred in the selection of the candidates but this should,” he reiterated.
He said they voluntarily accepted request of the SPLM Chairman to negotiate better understanding between the two parties because of the good historical relations that have existed for far too long between the two sisterly states of Warrap and Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
“Although we are administratively separated from Aweil affairs, we remain one people given our cultural and ancestral ties”, he said adding any difference between the two groups has no ground but expected incident caused by what he described as lack of experience.
He stressed they want to settle the current difference and persuade the two parties to work together to prevent any escalation of tension between supporters of the contestants.
“We have completely come with open heard seeking best alternatives to addressing it before electoral campaigns,” he said calling on citizens to help them break the deadlocks for peace, security and stability of the area.

Please tell salva Kirr that it is too late for him to think that by now, Let him (Salva) blame the SPLM Political Bereau for causing such disgrace to others caders in their own expenses.
If there is democracy in the south, let any independent candidate forge his/her own way to the job. after all it is they (SPLM) who ahd caused all the confusion in the south by collecting candidates from the dust bins, peopel who are not even populars to the grassroots voters who they called loyal to the party not along serving members.

Independent candidates are there to stay. Remember,we are talking about democracy, whereby only ballot paper can convince a candidate beyond a reasonable doubt that he/she has not yet won the support of many. So sending a delegation to Aweil could have been pointless. Major General Dau and other independent candidates won’t listen. Did they say the die is cast? Dissuading them is tantamount to telling a surging sea to calm down. Let Beny Malong prepare himself for the worst and hope for the best.

Dear General Dau Aturjong Nyuol
For your information General Dau never ,never drop runing for governor position.
you are doing the will of the people of Norhtern Bhar el Ghazal State.
They want you to be their governor than incumbent governor.
Do not listen anythings from these garbage delgations of Salva Kiir and his nephew Pagan. Amum who run the country as communist nation.
The most powerfull man in the whole world, Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon has made clear that the civillians or voters are the only one who will choose the candidate who has best ideas and good plan for the country, as long as our government is democratic nation.
If it is good to drop from race, why Salva Kiir doesn,t want to drop his candidancy race and give it to Dr. Lam Akol who is more educated than him.
For your information to all independent candidates, do not drop from race if Salva Kiir Mayardiit has not yet drop from presindential race.
Thanks
