Arab League chief inaugurates rehabilitation projects in Darfur
February 13, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — Arab League (AL) chief Amr Moussa on Saturday inaugurated a number of reconstruction and rehabilitation projects in West and South Darfur states in order to encourage voluntary return of Darfur displaced people.
Following his arrival on Saturday, Moussa Amr Moussa opened a number of projects for the voluntary return in Kereinek, including 30 houses, schools, hospital, water services and a police station.
Similarly, in South Darfur, he inaugurated the village of Miraya Jnqy in Al Salam district, in presence of a number of Sudanese officials. The AL funded the construction of houses of IDPs who returned from Darfur camps. It also financed the building of medical centre, schools, a power station, water plant and a police station.
Speaking in Kereinek, The Arab League Secretary General pledged to provide further development and service projects in order to support Darfur development and rehabilitation process.
The Arab League will hold an unprecedented meeting tomorrow in El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, where he is expected to announce further projects.
The Arab League summit held in March 2009 in Doha decided to allocate 8 million dollar monthly during one year For Darfur reconstruction and rehabilitation; also the Arab leaders urged Arab aid organizations to boost their activities there.
But the rebel JEM criticized the Arab projects saying these efforts are isolated and not integrated in a comprehensive plan to rebuild and develop the region in accordance with priorities and options determined by the people of Darfur.
“Facilities set up by the Arab League in the absence of peace and under the full control of the ruling NCP, are only assets in the hands of the tyrannical regime to buy political loyalty” said JEM spokesperson Ahmed Hussein Adam.
Sudan’s senior presidential assistant and chairman of the Transitional Darfur Regional Authority (TDRA) Minni Arko Minnawi, hailed the Arab support adding that Darfurians are awaiting much from the AL and their brothers in the Arab states to help them restore stability,
The Governor of West Darfur State, Abu Al-Gasim Imam, on his part, said that the visit of the AL delegation illustrated its keenness to rehabilitate what has been destroyed by war in the region.
Following its extra ordinary meeting in El-fashir on Sunday, the Arab League delegation will fly to Khartoum for a meeting with the President Omer Al-Bashir.

Dr Garang was saying this because he made aplan on how to awaken Darfur people to claim their right from Islamic regime by gun, and despite jealouses people kill him Darfur area is not going to be the same Darfur for ever
