National conference on peace and development in Darfur to be held in May
KHARTOUM, April 23, 2004 (SUNA) — Chairman of the High National Committee preparing for the National Comprehensive Conference on Peace and Development in Darfur (HNCPDD) Izz-Eddin Al-Sayed has announced that the conference would be convened in the second half of May.
Some 1,000 members representing the political forces and the civil society in Sudan, specially Darfur, will participate in the HNCPDD.
Speaking to the visiting Egyptian press delegation, Al-Sayed said the conference would discuss some 200 working papers covering the various issues.
He indicated that the proposed development projects for Darfur reach 220 projects.
Al-Sayed added that the committee has received some 30 initiatives for the solution of the issue, which are being studied prior to submitting them before the conference.
He stressed that the Sudanese people are capable of solving their problems through dialogue.
