SPLM supporters welcome governor candidate in Rumbek

By Manyang Mayom

February 20, 2010 (RUMBEK) – The Lakes state Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) supporters in Rumbek turned out in thousands to welcome their candidate for the governorship, Cde Engineer Chol Tong Mayay. The candidate had been absent from Rumbek in Juba, the capital of the region.

South Sudan ruling party (SPLM) in Lakes State has gained momentum against the African National Congress Party Sudan (ANC-Sudan) who had appeared to be the strongest rival party. SPLM also faces candidates from NCP and UDSF.

During the reception of Cde Chol Tong, transport within Rumbek town became difficult as voda-voda motorcyclists had joined in the reception.

Supporters cheering were saying “New Sudan Oyee, Lakes state Oyee and Chol tong Oyee”.

Speaking at the rally in Rumbek Freedom Square, Chol Tong ensured the crowd of his supporters that he will work hard for the favor of orphans, widows and disabled people as well as developmental projects and the security of the people – he also promised to give equal chances of scholarship to all students and more jobs are going to be created through good governance of the SPLM leadership in Lakes state if he is elected as governor.

Cde Chol Tong Mayay compared his political party to a husband who remained faithfully married to South Sudan for 22 year of fighting with the enemy in Khartoum.

“I was away for a mission and today I am here standing in front of you here in Rumbek to assure all of you that SPLM will win the election in all parts of Sudan as well as Yasir Arman in Khartoum will take over power in Khartoum’s presidential palace through votes of you people of Sudan”.

“Sudanese marginalized people are suffering across the country of Sudan and now the suffering is coming to an and through a democratic poll — vote for me and vote for yourself to achieve what you were fighting for all along those years of struggle,” he said.

It is unfortunate that the candidate was welcome by human sacrifices of that fighting involving Gok Dinka community against Rek Dinka community, and again the Dinka community against the SPLA forces in the state.

He has gone to Lakes state in a very bad day where even the paramount chief was killed. This is bad luck.

Lakes State is the only State that has chosen a man where all people in the State are hopeful to change their suffering from the previous governors’ rule since five years. We all Students of that State wherever we are, are behind him. Am sure 100% that he will implement all his promises to the people of Lakes State because he is a man behind his words and he is as well a politician of no types.
