S. Sudan army spokesman criticizes SPLM-DC chairman over remarks
March 2, 2010 (RUMBEK) — The South Sudan army official spokesman told the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-Democratic Change (SPLM-DC) chairman Lam Akol “to shut his mouth on SPLA issues”.
The angry response follows a series of accusations back and forth between the Southern opposition party and the army over the detention of few SPLM-DC operatives in Juba.
The Chairman of SPLM-DC, Dr. Lam Akol, was quoted in ‘The Citizen’ daily as saying at a rally in Malakal that he has a vision for reforming SPLA, making it a disciplined army, reorganizing it and having it trained as a national army.
The SPLA spokesperson Kuol in a phone interview with Sudan Tribune today responded saying, “First of all, the SPLA is appealing to all politicians to keep away in the campaign in regard to talking about SPLA issues. Let them not talk about the SPLA at all – let them not campaign with the name of SPLA’s future in their agenda.”
The spokesman insinuated that Lam Akol is incapable of giving a good example of discipline to the army, since he has a history of indiscipline.
“He has been in the SPLM/A, then he shifted to NCP, Justice party and again he shifted to the SPLM and again he created what is so-called SPLM-DC, which is the NCP sponsored party. What can you learn from such?” Kuol asked.
“Dr. Lam Akol is a person who is not principled man, how can such a person discipline the SPLA? Lam only knows the discipline of wavering which the SPLA did not like. Such a person like Lam Akol who betrayed his own army — he moved to Khartoum while we were struggling with Khartoum government – there is nothing that a military man can learn from such a person”.
“Let Lam do his campaign in South Sudan and let him shut off his mouth in talking about the SPLA issue. He always keeps writing in newspapers in Khartoum about SPLA issues which is not his mandate – he wrote about SPLA in Malakal saying that SPLA had torn election posters in Malakal which is a big lie – there is no SPLA in Malakal, only what we have in Malakal is JIU [Joint Integrated Unit] which is composed from the North and South armies as part of the CPA agreement. He wrote an article that disgraced the SPLA and that is not acceptable in the SPLA”.
“We are pure SPLA, we are neutral – we are not supporting any political party in Southern Sudan or wherever in Sudan – only what SPLA needs is for all parties’ candidates contesting for their political seats to respect the SPLA issues, by keeping away and not to discredit the SPLA”.

Is very hard to comment in this issue, SPLA spokes man seems as leaning on one side, he described Akol clearly with out doubt.
I also agreed with him about the neutrality of SPLA but doubt why some times detaining the members of the SPLM-DC?
Second to that the Spokes man run away from Lam Akol to reform the armies if elected, then who will head the armies if Kiir defeated in the election by Akol? I think is this Akol he can’t trust? or does he know that Akol is going to fail?
There are few problems with in SPLA he can’t deny it.
I am not happy with Lam Akol now because he is very close to the NCP but this is what the Southerners must judge during the elections, there is no need for armies to interfer in this simple compaign, wait untile Akol brought his own armies after election. You are there defend the country not tell who is a good politition or who is not.
Koul Dim your response is very agressive and shown that you have a side and involved in the politics.
You shut up Lam Akol, and you also need to shut up your political support to other political parties.
Thanks!

Dear readers,
I was very surprised to read the Abyei Kuol Deim Kuol’s political criticisms. This man has proved that he is indisciplined general in the SPLA. And these are the type of SPLA officers Dr. Lam Akol was referring to. He has gone too political in his response to Dr. Akol.
The so-called general’s role should have been denying the SPLA involvement in Malakal in the tearing of Lam Akol’s posters but not going too far by attacking the current and past political positions of Dr. Lam Akol. Where is the SPLA discipline and neutrality here, Mr. General????????????
Again, does Kuol have the political guts given his semi-illeteracy nature to understand political strategies that occured in 1991 than to just call them treason? Ah, stay away Kuol from politics you will never understand. Be a disciplined general in the army and leave such statements to Salva Kiir to handle.
Where is the other Abyei general in charge of SPLA administration? The guy who was in command of Dimma Refugee camp during the liberation struggle. Wow! What a world!

Dr. Lam could be a good leader but I don’t truth his judgement. Allow him to conduct his campaign, however, keep in mind that his time to be president of anybody is unpredictable. Lam should decleared his position where he belong. If NCP then I can agree with him and I can give him my vote. But if he support Southern Sudan I don’t think if that is a right move. Lam should explain why he colloborate with the NCP during struggle and should apologise on national television if we are to truth him.

Let Lam Akol decipline himself first before he can talk about decipline to others, he is a man of weak principles and a betrayer of his peoples cause, first Lam Akol should keep the Army out of politics, this is a known principles within t he election rules, if he brings Army to his agenda then when the Army responjd to him, it will be his own fault because he brought them into this elections. Alam Akol should understand clearly to seperate Army from politics and seperate religion from politics.
Which SPLA in malakal, his posters were torn by his own militia who are not happy with him there in Malakal.
However Lam Akol should campaign without causing any trouble, we all know he will not win the elections but we appreciate him for trying his best.

Dear SPLM Supporters!
what Dr. Akol trying to do in Sudan is to confused sudanese people, but the face is that, he can’t be banned to play his politics around the country, since he can lead then let him practice political games.

Hi Dr Lam, stick to the issues. Do’nt get soft targets for critizm. SPLA is our future army. When we finally liberate ourselves from the arabs, then we can devise ways of discipling it.One of the ways will be to train good officers from various tribes and promote the quilified offiecrs to high ranks. This will be based on merits and not on tribal affiliations.
I appeal again for you to stick to issues
