Ethiopia, Sudan signed development agreement

March 8, 2010 (GAMBELLA, Ethiopia) – Ethiopia and Sudan signed new agreement to launch an additional joint development projects along their shared border aiming to safeguard the interests of the two brotherly people.
The agreement was reached after General Chang-led Sudanese delegation drawn from two adjacent districts, held a joint consultative meeting with Ethiopian counterparts in Gambela state over the week end.
State minister of federal affairs Dr. Shiferaw Tekelemariam and General Chang of Sudan signed the agreement on Saturday winding up the joint border meeting.
Dr. Shiferaw urged people living in the Ethiopia-Sudan border areas to synchronize efforts toward ensuring sustainable development and good-governance in the regions.
He said that neighboring regions and the peoples of the two sisterly countries shall exert utmost efforts toward ensuring rapid and sustainable development, peace and stability, and democracy in border areas.
The Ethiopian minister, Dr. Shiferaw reaffirmed his government’s strong commitment to scale up the existing multilateral ties in the regards of, political cultural and Socio-economic sector.
Speaking at the occasion, leader of the Sudanese delegation, General Chang said the Sudanese government will remain committed toward scaling up ensuring commendable Ethio-Sudan bilateral relations in general, and ensuring development, peace, and stability in border areas in particular.
Chief of the Gambela State Administration, Omod Obang said on his part the regional government will do everything possible to ensure sustainable development as well as dependable peace and stability along the common border areas.
Ethiopia and Sudan have a number of trade and economic cooperation aimed at best-benefiting the two neighboring people.
The various bilateral agreements between the countries and the ongoing efforts by the two governments to further strengthen the people to people ties indicate the level of their diplomatic boost.
Joint Projects, among others on road, telecommunication, and electricity are clear indications to the intensity of their existing relationship.

Thanks Dr. Shiferaw Tekelemariam, General Chang, Omod Obang plus others for initiating the needed developments between the Ethio-South Sudan borders. It is in the best interests of both people to have close cooperation on developments, cultures and share forwarding ideas. This is why people of Jonglei, Uppernile or E. Equatoria are yearning for wise & intelligent leadership to promote mutual development in their next elected-governors. All these 3 southern states border Ethiopia. We need to promote trade and practice cooperations through that very important borders.
