Sudan’s envoy to US denies tense relations with UN ambassador
March 8, 2010 (WASHINGTON) – The Sudanese charge d’Affaires to the US Akec Khoc issued a statement this week denying that he had troubled relations with Sudan’s permanent representative to the United Nations Abdel-Mahmood Abdel-Haleem during his tenure as his deputy.
Khartoum has reportedly ended the mandate of Abdel-Haleem as he has reached the official retirement age.
A press release by Khoc sent to Sudan Tribune stated that he enjoyed “cordial relations defined by mutual respect for one another”.
“Once I transferred to Washington, this relationship continued, often visiting with one another when either of us is in either city. In fact I regard Ambassador Abdel-Mahmood Abdel-Haleem as my mentor, something I’ve mentioned publicly and privately on numerous occasions”.
The Sudanese diplomat noted that after transferring to Washington his relationship with Abdel-Haleem continued and exchanged visits.
“Any other statements contradicting these sentiments are erroneous. The established relationship between myself and Ambassador Abdel-Mahmood will continue to flourish. I wish him success in his life after foreign Service”.
