Sudan, Darfur rebel groups sign a deal on political issues?
KHARTOUM, April 25, 2004 (KUNA) — The Sudanese government and the insurgents of Darfur on Sunday signed an agreement on the political issues item, which forms the main issue in the round of talks currently going on in Chadian capital N’djamena.
The agreement, attended by Chadian President Idriss Deby and UN and African Union (AU) representatives, stated the formation of a joint committee to prepare for a conference aiming to discuss all Darfur issues.
Sudanese official media said that the committee would include three persons from each side in addition to UN Secretary General, AU and Chadian representatives. The two sides agreed to stop negotiations today to give chance to the joint committee to meet later in N’djamena.
The current round of talks started last Wednesday to discuss the political issues item after the two sides had signed on 8th April two agreements to cease fire for 45 days and deliver humanitarian aid.
