Haavisto paid this week a visit to the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, to discuss the up-coming elections and implementation of the CPA with the Sudanese government. He also had meetings with SPLM officials and the key opposition parties.

In his meetings with different stakeholders, the Finnish special envoy stressed the importance of equal access to media for all political parties. He was also concerned about threats of violence towards political campaigners that has occurred recently in different parts of Sudan.

The recent adoption of an electoral code of conduct is an important step towards credible election process in Sudan, he said.

Haavisto also said pleased to notice that the European Union election observers are already on the ground. Among the EU team there are also observers from Finland.

In his meeting with the African Union representative in Khartoum, Haavisto expressed gratitude for the work done by The African Union-led High-Level Panel on Sudan, led by former South African president Thabo Mbeki.

Mr. Haavisto also met with the new head of UNMIS, SRSG Haile Menkerios and the head of the Assessment and Evaluation Commission, Sir Derek Plumbly, and discussed the coordination of international community while preparing for the elections, the referendum and the post-referendum Sudan.

Haavisto, who had worked in Sudan as EU special envoy, was appointed last January as the special envoy to Sudan and the Horn of Africa by the Finnish government. The move aims to raise Finland’s profile in mediating in the crises of Africa, and the competition for the rotating membership of the United Nations Security Council.

    Mr Pekka Haavisto,

Sudan has been under Khartoum government for centuries when SPLM did not took arms against them. The only ways Khartoum leaders reinforced politics in Sudan is completely difference from democracy countries.

Khartoum government system of governance is similiar to Iraq. They used Sharia law to govern the political regulation of acountry. Politicians in Khartoun devalue other laws that should rules the country ,while agreed to used the laws of intentional arrest or assassination when they witness that the right leader is almost under way.

They kill William Deng Nhial during compaining in the South because they order Dendgit donot to go to the South for compain to persuade the Southeners to vote for him. arab(Jallaba) want Deng Nhial to be in khartoum only untill the election is over.Is that the democracy system of something else in the Country.

Last year, Bashier government refuse to refrained the power to arrest because they know that it is their way of stealing the power when arresting the wining candidate or possiblly killed him on spot with no objection. South Sudanese witness this before. See now, why NCP( Bashier) government refuse to refrain the law of arrest to by meany guided by condusive laws and regulations? there is something going on there s asign of them to struggle on how to destroy peaceful means to unpeaceful ways.

Furthermore, South Sudanese knows that Arab are hard people to be believe for several additional reasons.

They(NCP) cut off all the media base in khartoum when there is important occassion. For example, When Dr John Garang de Mabior when to khartoum in 2005, NCP disconnect the media and stop journalist to report the event which was attended by ten of Thausands Sudanese in Khartoum, but South and the world did not watch that because the world has been disconnected from the news because they think that DR Garang media familarity will promote him to defeat Bashier in the forth elections in 2005.

Now, Arab North put it in the You-Tube,but you can not hear the sound of Dr John Garang. Moreover, Bashier government disconnect the citizens to see Dr Garang because of their manipulation that they did when they changed the day of visit through their own irrelevant exposures. See, this Jallaba are difficult to deal with friendly, unless in ahard way and this is why they accept little about CPA.

We South knows it very well that this CPA is not the first accord. We have severals aggreements that they dishonored while they almost reached the same procedures of this CPA. Arab create many ways to escape the accord and that is why alot of issues are still unsolve while 2011 is approaching. There is know way they wish to try that ill decision, but Southners are ready to solve theiri dealogies through what they want, but our mean objective is to solve our disagreements through peaceful ways. I think the world knows 1972 accord dishonored by Jeffery Nimerry and the one the one which i mention before.

The solution to our problem is that the world will be keen enough on the election days and the counting days because wanders can happen since we know that Khartoum is the Capital city and many NCP traitors that are supporting Bashier because they have been using South Sudanese as their source of wealth through supporting Arab goverment.

We need media to freely accessible and the world need to be witness about 2010 and they should respect the decission of Southeners in 2011.
    Thanks

Good to see Finland become more active here in Sudan, democratic transformation needs support from all sides to push the process forward, Sudan is very new to this process but with help from the international community it will achieve some good results toward the begining of democratic transformation.
