Egypt seeks two billion USD for Darfur reconstruction
March 12, 2010 (CAIRO) – Egypt which will host Darfur donor conference next week, said intending to raise over two billion US dollar for infrastructure and development projects in the war ravaged province of western Sudan.
Since the signing of Darfur Peace Agreement in May 2006 Cairo proposed to host the conference as part of Egypt’s efforts to bring peace in the region. However, last year, Sudan asked Cairo to associate Turkey in the organization of this conference.
The donor conference for Darfur reconstruction and development that will be held on March 21, is expected to propose projects at 2.04 billion USD for infrastructure, health, water and other development projects.
The projects that would be funded by loans or grants include building two cement plants, 520 km (300 miles) of roads and 120 villages for displaced people.
The one day conference is expected to be attended by the 57 countries of the Organization of the Islamic Conference and several European countries, China Japan and USA.
Qatar which hosts Darfur peace process announced on February 23, that one billon USD would be allocated for development projects in the region. But it is not clear whether this money will be considered by the donor meeting or it would be implemented by a Qatari foundation established recently.

Egypt is a trader.
Egypt has been making money out of Palestine conflict. The money never reach Palestinians. Apparently, Egypt shifted to Darfur conflict. Since when does Egypt care about Darfuri people?
In 2005 Egypt killed more than 150 Darfuri refugees in Cairo in front of the UNHCR office.
UN did nothing about that ugly killing in the heart of Muhandeseen suburb, Egypt.
Darfuri should stop Egypt from making business with people lives. Egypt will never build Darfur. Darfuri should tell Egypt to build Aswan(south of Egypt) first.
Stop doing business with people lives. God will punish Egypt soon. I hope we Sudanese may seek billions of USD for Egypt reconstruction.

What is meant by “re”construction? Did Darfur have beautiful roads and hospitals which were bombed?
This sounds like a chance for Egypt to make some money, but it is the responsibility of the Sudanese government to provide services for Darfur and maintain them. If Khartoum stopped spending so much on weapons and curtailed corruption there would be enough money to go around. Why bring a country like Egypt into the equation? As for the US, it is about time it stopped trying to save the Islamic world from itself, and concentrated on Christian countries, such as south Sudan. Muslims get far too much American money already.
