Biemnom MP assassinated in Juba

By Ngor Arol Garang

March 14, 2010, (KHARTOUM) — Honorable Bol Deng Kot was slain by unknown uniformed men on Wednesday, March 10, resulting in condemnation by authorities and the citizenry of Biemnon county of the southern state of Unity.

Honorable Bol Deng Kot was a member of parliament in the regional legislative assembly in Juba, representing Biemnom constituency as a member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement.

During the selection and endorsement process of official party nominees in January 2010, Hon. Bol Deng Kot’s name never appeared though reportedly he had been selected by the state electoral college.

Without the endorsement of the SPLM Political Bureau, he chose to stand as an independent candidate. But his popularity in the area compelled SPLM leadership to promise him a parliamentary seat from among the 40 seats allocated to SPLM after the latest negotiations with the ruling National Congress Party.

Last Wednesday at 2 a.m., a group of armed men allegedly entered his accommodation at Jebel Kunjur, west of Juba town, fired bullets indiscriminately to scare family members and relatives living in the same compound and forcefully made their way into his room.

According to his wife, five strong armed men in military uniforms with AKM rifles and pistols wrapped her up and muzzled her mouth to stop her from making loud noise. “They rushed straight into our bed and started seeking where my husband was on the bed,” she recalled.

She said she was forcefully removed from her husband. “I was removed and thrown away by two men holding my throat and mouth tightly,” she said. “I tried to cry but could not as my throat and mouth were tightly held by two strong men while three others were wrestling with him.”

Then they shot her husband to death.

Others gunmen were said to be outside the house. All the family members and relatives including the brother of the MP were confined to their living rooms as they had no guns. The group left and were never traced as they vanished into the mountains.

The government is quiet about whether it is launching any investigation procedures. Relatives say they brought Bol Deng Kot’s body to Bentiu awaiting transportation to his village of birth for burial.

Political assassination is not only morally wrong and a criminal act but it is a waste of valuable human resource. Southern Sudan need an atmosphere of peaceful competition, not intimidation by political opponents. Southerners need each one of them not lose to war, not senseless political killings. My condolences to the family of Bol Deng.

Wjoever did this has to be brought to face the full force of the law, this are organised criminals, the state security agencies should use all their resources to bring such criminals to justice. It is not acceptable for any MP of south sudan to be killed in this way inside the capital of his country, MP are representatives of the people so they should be protected and feel safe int heir capital, We trust in interior minister to bring this terrorist to justice.

This raises another question, Should south sudan increase the number of security agencies? to deal with organize crimes, to deal with drug and human trafficking and to deal with externally organised crimes like terrorism, three extra units should be added, two security agencies for the police and one more nationally to work on counter-terrorism. because we cannot allow people to be killed like that it is not acceptable inside the capital of south sudan because no body know who might be the next MP or next minister to be killed, if people are being killed by unknown gunmen inside the capital then what will happen to the innocent people who live in the outside villages? its time to put more strength and work into the security systems, too much talking is not enough when people are dying like this.

    Biemnom MP assassinated in Juba
MP Zackaria Bol Deng Kot from Dinka Ruweng of Biemnom County in Unity State was killed! What a misereable and an absurd news is that? Zackaria Bol Deng Kot, who was appointed by the Citizen of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County in Unity State on May 2006, to Represent the DINKA RUWENG COMMUNITY OF BIEMNOM COUNTY passed away without any clear evident of his death.

Zackaria Bol Deng Kot, a son of Dinka Ruweng Biemnom County died in a way which is really very ridiculous. It could be better if he died in a war zone. Zackaria Bol Deng Kot from JAMUS BATALLION joined the Movement in 1983 when Ruweng Region of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom was totally been destroyed by Arabs. That was the same year when the Paramount Chief of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom Mr Camilo Kuot Kur Kuot was assassinated by Arabs. Zackaria Bol Deng Kot, a man who captured Muhammed El-Nur a Governor of Mayom County on August 1986 today appeared to be killed by anonymous people in Juba. I believe the saying said “brave people are always known through their braveness, but afterward, they died just in a simple manner”. This is what happened today to our belove and brave leader Mr MP Zackaria Bol Deng Kot of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County in Unity State.

Zackaria Bol Deng Kot fought in many towns of Southern Sudan such as Mayom, Ayod, Kurmuk, Nasir, Jakou, Malualgau, Atar, Abuong, Maluth, Yei, Marobo, Kejokeji, Tumbura, Mundri, Juba, Lyeria and Maridi. Then again, he did is operation in the area of Aweil when his Jamus Battalion under Kawach Makuei was deployed in the area of Aweil and destroyed the Railway of Wau on February 1984.

Dinka Ruweng of Biemnom County in Unity State had been facing many eradical issues since 1969 until today. Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County in Unity State composes of Six Chiefdoms or Clans. Here are they:

    -Mijuan
    -Amaal
    -Abaang
    -NgongChill
    -Manteeng
    -Thiyeer

So, MP Zackaria Bol Deng Kot is from AMAAL clan of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County in Unity State. Dinka Ruweng Community has been silent. A lot of people today they don’t know what Ruweng is. As it appeared in the news above that Bol Deng Kot is represent Biemnom County. That is wrong. Bol Deng Kot represent Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County in Unity State. The one who is Representing Biemnom is Arop Yuot Kamaan. Arop Yuot Kamaan is the Commissioner of Biemnom nowadays. Biemnom on the other hand, is the County Dinka Ruweng. The report which came up saying that Bol Deng Kot is representing Biemnom is completely wrong and wrong. Biemnom is a County itself, but who are the people inhibating this County? The people inhibating this county are DINKA RUWENG of Biemnom.

I know that there are some people like Dinka Panaruu Community who wants to mess up this name and therefore, they call themselve Ruweng. This is wrong. Panaruu are not Ruweng. We Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom know that some people like Dinka Panaruu wants to prevaricated the right of Dinka Ruweng to be call Ruweng. It will not happen. Last year of 2008 when Abyei Ruling was forwarded to the people of Jok of Ngok-Abyei and Oil was given to the North, Benjamin Mijak Dau claimed the land being given to the North as the land of Dinka Panaruu and in the news it was said that Benjamin Mijak Dau represent Ruweng. No land of Dinka Panaruu had been forwarded to the North, but the land of Dinka Ruweng of Biemnom County was given to the North by Deng Alor Kuol. That was a political propaganda from Dinka Panaruu that they wants to take the name Ruweng just because that they should be known as the people whose land so call TOOR ALIINY(Heglig) was belong to them because of oil. Benjamin Mijak Dau, a MP in the Southern Sudan Parliament represent Dinka Panaruu and that is it. We Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County in Unity State, we can not be represent by someone whom we don’t know. After all, Dinka Ruweng of Biemnom County and Dinka Panaruu of Panrieng County are totally different. Dinka Ruweng is the one with its Paramount Chief call Kur Kuot Kur whose son Camilo Kuot Kur Kuot became a Paramount Chief after the death of his father Kur Kuot Kuot, while Dinka Panaruu is the one with its Paramount Chief call Miakuei Bilkuei.

Lastly, in 1998, Benjamin Mijak Dau said it in Nairobi when he was having meeting with his people of Dinka Panaruu that Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County in Unity State is a small County and its should not have a county at all. So, there the people of Dinka Panaruu adopt the name Ruweng while they were not call Ruweng from the very beginning. Shame on them. Our problems we Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County with Dinka Panaruu should not supposed to be discussed on this website, but little clues have to be given to some people who don’t know what is going on behind between Dinka Panaruu of Panrieng County and Dinka Ruweng of Biemnom County in Unity State.

    Thanks
