SPLA denies harassing supporters of independent candidates

March 19, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) official spokesperson Major General Kuol Deim Kuol, denied allegations leveled against his troops by two independent candidates that they are beating their supporters as well as randomly shutting down their offices and sabotaging their rallies.

Angelina Jang Teny, an independent candidate running against incumbent governor of Unity state (Bentiu) Taban Deng accused the SPLA of carrying out harassments against her supporters.

The SPLA spokesman, said that they have sent a team from the SPLA Division four headquarters in Dwar because they have no presence in the area.

“What we found out was that supporters of Angelina were fighting with supporters of governor Taban Deng Gai, so the local five policeman who were in Guerjok then intervened by firing up some live bullets around of ambitions so that they can disperse the supporters . This has nothing to do with SPLA because we don’t have any soldiers in Guet County” Kuol said.

“It is really very surprising why Madam Angelina accused the SPLA out of blues – Out of nothing, what is her motive?” he posed the question.

“We are defending her from Misseriya attack and instead of expressing appreciation, she starts accusing us”.

Joseph Bakosoro, a former SPLM official, is seeking Western Equatoria state governorship in the upcoming April 2010 General elections.

He is the key rival of the former governor and state caretaker Jemma Nunu Kumba, the official SPLM nominee. Some elements believed to be from the SPLA soldiers Security Forces in Maridi raided and shut down his.

In response, Kuol said that there are no SPLA units present there because they left town to Join Integrated Unity (JIU) and deployed outside the town to protect civilians from Ugandan LRA rebels’ attack.

“We don’t have anyone there and therefore we have to send another team from Yambio to investigate and tell us what happened in Maridi” he said.

Earlier this month, all south Sudan’s political parties signed an election code of conduct committing themselves to ensure upcoming polls in April are free and fair.

South Sudan was left in ruins by the civil war with the north during which about two million people were killed, in a conflict fuelled by religion, ethnicity, ideology, resources and oil.

Many also fear that political battles could trigger violence in the south, which is already reeling from a string of violent clashes.

SPLA is now called Southern Sudan Army. Their jobs is to defense Soutern Sudanese, if Angelina believes that she is a S.Sudanese, then she need to stay calm, stop witch hunt and focuse on her aspirations. Pointing finger here and there might be translated as symptom of defeat.

If she is really a Jang (in other words Dinka) daughter, she need to stop crying, because Dinka people don’t cry. The rise with pride and fall with pride.

Long live SPLA, Long live John Garang’s Army, Long live Southern Sudan

This incompetent SPLA spokesman, Kuol Deim Kuol is a typical congenital liar. SPLA soldiers are known to be in those areas where harrassments took place, either as regular or stationed elements for the purpose to harrass candidates.

Salva Kiir himself in his speech I listened to on SSTV satelite channel yesterday told the crowd in Nimule not to cooperate with independent candidates. The what does this mean?

Reports reaching us from Juba also indicate that state media (Juba radio and TV) are instructed by the ministry of Information not to air successful campaigns of independent candidates.

My friend, South Sudan is more dictatorial than Khartoum which they were crying against. The worst is South Sudan in suppressing freedom of speech and of expression.

    Don’t deny those facts!!!

I don’t even believe that the elections will take place. The campaigns are just an exercise to waste money and expose divisions and weaknesses of the SPLM as a party that has failed to uphold its democratic principles.

It is clear that the independent candidates in the South Sudan have their own motive. Governor Taban Deng supporters fighting with the one of Angelina traitor. Dear brothers and sisters, can you guys see the motive behind.

Indeed, this lady called Angelina is following the route of his husband and they have hidden agenda in GOSS. I hope SPLM under the leadership of Salva kiir knows the intention of Angelina particularly. She is wearing sheep skin while ahyena. She just jump to denny the disruption of rally yesterday while governor Taban Deng could be the one to talk about the incident.

This lady is nothing in the South and if she keep fueling the issues base on hatred, then she and Riek will be the first to encountered the bitterness before anybody in the South. She is yearning for governorship because she knows that GONU is going to be no longer after 2011.

See how hyenas are desperately for food. and even the same thing in Akobo happened because they(Nuer) want to assassinate their leader. Wow! these are food lovers completely.

What did she know? none. We need governor that can respond to Jallaba in 2011 because we have something waithing for us,but is not food which is easy for Angelina traitor.
These family must be examined critically because they have been sleeping in different houses.
    Thanks

It is not the mandate of SPLA soldiers or whichever military group to disturb political rallies being allowed by NEC. Soldiers are for the entire security of the nation and if some had made mistake to act politically, then it is the role of the concern authority to discipline them.

Somebody must have been feeding lies to the public. I have no doubt now that person is the child-like Gen. Kuol Diem. South Sudan Army must rid itself from this brainless creature before everything falls apart. This stupid General does not differentiate between political and military affairs. Take it from me General, we are not in Africa Cold War era when military personnel often got their noses into politics. Enough is enough.

Ala! All these independent candidates (Bakosoro and Teny) have lost logic. The SPLA is not an item for their compaign. The SPLA is an independent body and understands southern Sudan interests much better than them. When they are in confusion the SPLA is could form a perfect orientation provider for them.

    Thanks

Independent candidates should face their own problems and not blame the army for their own failures. some independent candidates have enemies within the population, then how come they want to blame the army for their own problems and disorganisation.
