March 18, 2010 (RUMBEK) — The SPLM governor candidate in Lakes state, Eng. Chol Tong Mayay held over seven rallies in Yirol West County of Lakes state before his trip to Yirol East County from which he proceeded to Awerial in the easternmost part of the state on Thursday.

The outgoing Yirol West County commissioner, Agok Manyiel Dhieu, who served as SPLM county chairperson said that SPLM has gained ground in both counties of Yirol.

The turnout of the local populations seemed to indicate voters are supportive of SPLM while chiefs also affirmed their loyalty to the ruling party. The majority of chiefs and students openly told the gatherings that they will vote for SPLM members starting with presidential candidate Yasir Arman.

Engineer Chol Tong Mayay, who is escorted by Daniel Ayual Makoi (Ajuong-kuolbet), an unsuccessful bidder for the gubernatorial candidacy in the party’s primary, reached Awerial with all SPLM official party contestants who are seeking seats whether in a geographic constituency, on the party lists, or women’s lists for the state, regional or national parliaments.

Simon Mading Anyien, paramount chief of Awerial affirmed that “SPLM is our only party that we can support here in this county; all our community votes must go to Chol Tong as an SPLM candidate for governorship of Lakes state – if need be, others political parties will tell us what are their plans and where were they during this bloody civil war of 22 years between the Khartoum regime and South Sudan?”

Majok Machar, chief at Aboyong payam of Awerial county, said that SPLM took the locals’ wealth during the war without compensating them. He said that they will nevertheless vote SPLM members into power with their demand of compensation pending on SPLM’s table, since “we are not concerned on how they are corrupt but we are concerned of our children’s future to get a better New Sudan and new idea of life fun.” His also added that there was no need for SPLM to waste her resources to mobilize votes in Awerial as Awerial is already supportive of the party.

Last week, Eng. Chol launched his election campaign in Wulu County of Lakes state accompanied by Dr. Anne Itto, who is the SPLM Deputy Secretary General for Southern Sudan Sector. Several chiefs and students there pledged their support.

Wulu Paramount Chief Mataba Yahora affirmed himself to stand strongly behind his community to lobby for more votes that will lead Cde. Mayay into power. A youth league leader in Wulu was overwhelmed by the paramount chief’s statement and Mataba was lifted up by a crowd chanting “SPLM Oyee, SPLM is victory”.

The campaign speeches addressed women’s empowerment, a brighter future for youth, disabled persons’ empowerment, rural area health reform, electricity and clean drink water installation, good governance, and the future for widows and orphans. He also promise eight counties of Lakes state that he cabinet will represent all faces and accountability will be solution of his cabinet if elected state governor.

Today, Yirol West County commissioner Agok Manyeil Dhieu noted that SPLM will bring back its political election campaign to Agang and Mapuordit of Yirol West County today.

I like the question that was asked by Paramount Chief.

He said where were those oposition parties during the war.

It is strong statement ,and i asked the same question too to those money hunters during the North-South War.
    Great!

Some individuals get thousand of Pounds into their pockets just to brainwash the poor living civilians about ambiguous SPLA. It is unhealthy to eat full and convince some who are starving to come and listen to your garbage. To Hell with those supporters who only show commitment when there is money available to them. Currently the media has been crock from accessing how much are being waste on this campaign, is it really a wise move if things are done secret? come on ladies and gentleman get the facts and get on with your life, don’t let SPLA interface with your own choice of voting.

Eng. Chol Tong will be voted for in Lakes State not just because he is a politician nor just being SPLM member. It is because he is a man after his own words, full of development and most competent man who does not turn his back to the society’s needs. He has come at the right time where people are really in need of him to turn all stones of changes in the Lakes State.

good job, the election candidates should reach everyone and tell everyone what they will offer them whent hey win office, they have to bring badly needed development, like roads to connect remote villages, bring schools and clinics and improve their livelihood through agriculture and economic empowerment. Lets hope the governors do not forget people in remote villages as soon as they are elected.

    Mr. Mayom,

Today as I checked all of the (Male or female are all heavy/fat) politician photos, they all looks well fed then the average person in this rallies. What’s wrong with this picture, those politicians should loose some weigh. It’s embarrassing to see all politicians looks healthy and the average citizen looks sick. Many of the politicians male/female need to go on a diet … immediately!.

Also, the soldiers in the pictures looks malnourished …… they need uniforms, shoes, food, and well coordinated exercise for ever law enforcement. Since they are the one protecting you people of the south.
