Addressing one of the biggest rallies he ever held since declaring his intention to contest independently after failing to secure SPLM nomination, he reaffirmed his loyalty to his people saying he believes and trusts people of Mading Aweil describing them as people with tolerance, well-brought-up people who are endowed with great resources of imagination, creativity and have long and fascinating history living with neighboring communities.

“Aweil is my home and you are my people and I am your own son. All those I see here are no new faces to me and I hope the same applies to you if not majority,” Dau said. “This is why I have decided to contest this election because I am contesting with my people and people I have lived with for years,” he added.

Before to arrive in Wanyjok, General Daw paid electoral visits to other counties and payams pledging to bring total change it the administration of the state. He also calls to elect Salva Kiir as president of southern Sudan government and to vote for Yasir Arman, SPLM candidate for the Sudanese presidency.

“I campaign for clear and visible change in the state administration,” he says.

“The administration I need your votes to install in Aweil should be an administration that will reduce all inequalities between our people because I strongly understand that such inequalities generate anger and a sense of injustice among people and create a society in which different communities lead parallel lives with no shared experiences and aspirations to bind them together,” Dau said.

The gubernatorial candidate was accompanied by leading members of northern Bahr el Ghazal state community who are also contesting independently for various political positions like parliamentary seats to state assembly in Aweil town, regional assembly in Juba and national assembly in Khartoum.

The key political figures in Wanyjok rally included former regional minister of finance and economic planning, Kuol Athian Mawien, state political adviser Cleto Akot Kuel among others.

Wanyjok is the home county of incumbent governor Paul Malong.
