March 29, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — The leader of SPLM-Democratic Change accused the southern Sudan security forces of obstructing his electoral campaign in Wau saying they arrested nine of his team members including journalists and security staff.
Charles Kisanga, the SPLM-DC secretary General said their security agent in Wau kept them on Sunday for more than an hour in the plane as they wanted to disarm the bodyguards accompanying the former foreign minister and party leader Lam Akol.
“They said we came without prior information,” he added.
I a press conference held in Khartoum today Akol said they detained and beaten nine members of his team including two journalists and the security members before to release them.
“They denied us conduct of electoral rallies because chairman was found to have been escorted by 7 security forces belonging to national intelligence and security service” given to him at the head office in Khartoum, Kisanga told Sudan Tribune.
He added they contacted the Deputy Director of the national intelligence and security services, General Majak D Agot who explained to Wau authorities these people have been moving with SPLM-DC chairman for quite long since he started his election campaign programs.
He further accused Western Bahr el Ghazal authorities of targeting his party saying “each time we want to conduct our activities in Wau, they give out lot of excuses”. For example, he said, on 18 March, 2010, “we discussed with the National Election Commission our intention to go to Wau to launch our activities on 20th March, 2010 but we were told that SPLM would be conducting their rallies the same day and so it was not it possible”.
“20th came and SPLM leaders never conducted any rally, instead Salva Kiir went on different date,” Kisanga explains.
The SPLM-DC official further complained about difficulties they face in other southern Sudan states. “We also wanted to go to Rumbek and Yambio but were told that SPLM has a plan to visit these areas too;” and authorities in Yambio “have completely denied us access urging that airstrip is under construction but information we have indicate that it is being used.” Concluding “These are tactics to deny us conduct our rallies so that we cannot reach potential supporters and voters,” he stressed.
Lam Akol is accused by the ruling party in southern Sudan, SPLM, of being used by the National Congress Party to undermine their control of the semi-autonomous region and hinder plans for southern Sudan independence. The NCP has no candidate for southern Sudan president and declared its support for Salva Kiir candidacy.
However authorities from the regional government of Southern Sudan have denied arrest of SPLM- DC leader, Dr. Lam Akol in Wau saying they did hear any official report about his arrest from the state authorities published earlier by the press in Khartoum.
George Garang Deng, the undersecretary of the ministry of information and communication service, in Juba, on Monday 29, said he did not hear arrest of Dr. Lam Akol as circulated in the media.
“What I heard to have happened was that he was found to have more body guards, all well armed by airport authorities in collaboration with national intelligence and security service,” Garang said. He (Akol) was neither touched nor taken for questioning but was kindly and officially approached to explain why he had more than the authorized number of bodyguards,” he added.
“This having more than official number opposed to election security rules, requires justification” he said.
Election rules and security guidelines, allows aspiring candidates for executive positions, go for electoral campaigns with maximum of three to five security personnel, he emphasized.
He said information related to the security personnel is communicated to receiving location giving details of their arms two days prior to arrival for the conduct of the electoral activities including rallies in the public places.
This information is communicated to the national intelligence and security services which can then transmit it to local authorities including police and caretaker administration, he explains.
“This has nothing to do with government or dominant party. It is something connected to the security of the public and official contestants and this is why election commission gives extra-security forces to officials conducting their rallies in a given location,” Garang said.

I hope that NCP applies the same shit to SPLM Dinka in northern Sudan to see how it feel. This is the arrogant of the so call Dinka movement. They are using people’s resources for their own benefit. The SPLM-DC officials do not know election rules, they are actually the ones who are violating this elections, then when they are ask to account for it they claim they have been stopped from rallies, this is such a cheap excuse. Why would any one candidate be walking with 7 to 10 body guards all heavily armed? is he going to war with anyone? rules allows only maximum 5 but Lam Akol half of his plane is all body guards, so who is breaking the rulkes, also the media int he north are always looking foir anything small so they can say the south is violating the elections but they failed to say why Lam Akol’s crew was stopped, even after all this they were stopped for only one hour and 30 minutes which is not alot of time, considering the authorities first needs to verify the identity of the personel and if they are actually official bodyguards and if they have permission from the national security to hold guns with them in election campaign, so it was appropriate to check things and release them in just one hour but Lam Akol was not arrested as has been claimed in the media in the north, The only people stopped are only the 7 bodyguard who were carrying weapons so if thats the case then what is wrong? Lam was suppose to go to Yambio but diverted to wau, this shows that he is disorganised and is not planning his campaign very well, he should stop blaming others for his failures, he needs to plan his campaign well.

Please, let not be deceive again, we do not want the election and the referendum to be push and inched away. SPLM need not to delay the election as well as referendum. Yes, we have seen bashier right now ;therefore, we want to be ready for any aggression from Khartoum.Please to my people from Nuer, we can not afford going to khartoum like before when we left Dinka only in the battlefield. We make acoalition governmnet with Bashier in 1991 so that we can get our selve independent from Dinka who have been our presige leaders since the creation of Earth. After we make allaince with Arab governmnet, we agree with our respected president Bashier so that we can deployed our brave Nuer in the oil field in Bentiu to protect it from Dinka government who want to exploit our oil.
We deployed Matip Nhial to protect our oil from Dinka SPLM because that is the only thing that we can lived with,no other that can help us in this soil. We Nuer have been living for stealing and raiding cattle from Dinka for centuries,and in fact if we felt like we have nothing to eat, we go and raid civilians and take their cattle for our living so that we can wait for our crops to grow in our Nuer land.
Moreover, We Nuer value Arab more than the South because they have been giving as free food,and even they provide us free arms that can make us easy to go raiding and penetrate those Dinka who can resist our raiding. Yes, we Nuer knows that we can die but we value food than any thing and that is why we go raing the cattle because food is better than life.
Indeed, because we Nuer have shallow mind that can compete with South Sudanese, the only thing that we can do is to be nagative always and complained when the food is ready because we Nuer have no capacity to lead at all because we are the curse comunity as predicted by Ngundeeng and wurnyang.
Though we Nuer slaughtered Wurnyang when he gimmick as by giving as two identitical bulls, he kept one in the house and he led one bull killed and latter subsituted the dead with the alive bull and he said this bull is the bull that we killed before, as aresult, when we Nuer go to Dinka Bor land and every single dead Nuer will rose in his own house. In fact, because of the promise of Wurnyang, we just jump to the barrel of the guns and we all die while hopping that we will resurrect in our own house. None of us Nuer get up in houses therefore, we slaughtered Wurnyang and left with Ngundeeng.
We Nuer are sure that our only and educated man- Riek Machar Durgon will be the president of South for 50 years so that he can make it like the way Dinka and Equatorians led in the country/Sudan. We believed in Ngundeeng as our only servior,and no more than that because he promise as to have aleader in the near future and he told us that we are the only people who will lead the South till death.
Frankly, Dinka must know that we fight hard because of food and if they don,t provide us /Nuer enough food before April,then there will be no election as well as referendum because we desperately need somthing to eat. We Nuer are brave for the killing of innocents because those are the only people we can fight with. We Nuer knows that we are born empty and will die empty,but what can we do because our mind can not help us to undestand the positives of education. We are the curse community, we know about that but what can we do now.
We Naath we die after the very best two Nuer leaders; Dr Riek Machar and Agenlina Teny because if they die no any other leader can lead the south. We hope we Naath want every one to be uncivilian than attending education because we need more young youth to do the raiding and give food to the old and weak individual. SPLM should not act like NCP. Give Dr. Lam Akol free access and conduct of political rallies.
The rumors are clearer now that Western BAhr el Ghazal and Western Equatoria states are strongholds of Dr. Lam. Last year the former Governor, Gen. mark Nyipoch was accused of defecting to Dr. Akol. May be the SPLM fears that the people in that state are for Dr. Lam Akol.
The same thing goes to WES because Dr. Akol’s strong man, Dr. Kisanga is also from that state. So there is fear that Dr. Akol will mobilize huge support in those states. But is campaigning in stronghold states not the way democratic elections campaigns are done?
Stop panicking SPLM! You better postpone the elections because NCP has already pre-rigged it for Dr. Lam Akol even if he doesn’t campaign. His campaign could only be symbolic.

I’m too sorry to hear from big man politician in high rank of Dr.Dr Lam Akol,is the tribalistic leader, is not fit to be leader of south sudan because south sudan is compost of so many tribes.A such a tribalistic leader should not be voted for.In His arrival to wau air port, he was detained by the security organ but the delegation was sent to him,that headed by colonel of the police to welcome him.The speech he released to the colonel,why am I welcome by a Dinka, is it true what I heard from Juba that wau is conquered by the Dinkas????????????.
