Southern leader praises Sudanese-UN association role in development

KHARTOUM, April 26, 2004 (SUNA) — Leading southern politician Bona Malwal has praised the role of the Sudanese-UN Association in supporting the development process in the country, calling for exerting further efforts to meet the coming peace stage.

Addressing the deliberately meeting of the general assembly of the association at Al-Sharijah Hall here Sunday evening, in the presence of the advisor of the minister of foreign affairs, Ambassador Awad-al-Karim Fadlallah, Bona Malwal explained that the association is one of the active civil community organizations that are expected to play an important role in the peace period.

Member of the executive office of the International Federation of the UN Associations, Prof Abdallah Ahmad Abdallah, on his part explained that objectives of the association focus on raising the awareness with the values and activities of the UN, pointing to the participation of the Sudanese-UN association in the meeting of the international federation of UN association, held in Spain last year.

He stressed the active role the civil society organizations play in effecting coordination and cooperation among the regional and international organizations to achieve development and alleviate poverty.

The meeting reviewed the report on the performance of the association for 2003 presented by the deputy chairman of the association, Prof Abdallah Ahmad Abdallah.
