The founder of Carter Center arrived to Khartoum, two days ago, leading an important delegation including member of the Elders Lakhdar Brahimi, Judge Joseph Warioba, and Carter Center President and CEO Dr. John Hardman.

Following a meeting held with the electoral board, the former US president told reports that the NEC members gave him satisfactory explanations with regard to the transportation of electoral material to the polling stations.

In a report released on March 17, the Carter Center said the limited transportation capacities, the massive volume of materials to be deployed, and delays in ballots production might, among others challenges, impose to delay the election’s date.

“It is a very challenging election, because Sudan has not held elections since 1986,” he said, adding “The NEC’s (officials) have done their best under these circumstances”.

NEC Deputy Chairman, Abdallah Ahmed Abdallah, affirmed that there was a full coordination between the NEC and the Carter Center to observe the elections.

Abdallah further said Carter assured them that the Center has no power over the Sudanese elections, noting that the Centre is a partner in the electoral process.

The U.S.-based Carter Center, which was founded by Jimmy Carter, sent 65 observers to monitor the general elections in Sudan besides the EU observation team of 130 observers.

In Brussels, the European Union reaffirmed that its observers will continue to monitor the elections despite the withdrawal its team from Darfur for security reasons.

“The independent EU Electoral Observation Mission will continue to observe the elections in Sudan. The decision to deploy one of EU’s largest missions was taken in recognition of the importance of the Sudanese elections,” said a statement signed by EU foreign affairs chief, Catherine Ashton.

“I encourage all engaged Sudanese parties and stakeholders to contribute to satisfactory conditions for the people of Sudan to cast their vote,’ Ashton added.

SPLM who support Yasir Arman will still vote for him as the challenger of Omer Bashier. there is no sense why SPLM withdraw Arman in the race.

    Hey Time1,

Ok, I am acommunist, where are you going to take me in the South.
My friend, the withdrawal of Arman is the violation of CPA and it will not allow the referendum to be smooth. I don,t want to repeat myself dear.

You tell me i am from North, then your nature will judge me. In fact, I was trained in 1989 in Bunga( Red Army of Majak Agot de Mayen) and I fought in Bilnyaang, Kapoeta, and Juba dear. Please stop your refugees reasoning and that is why you called the most dedicated generals as communists.

Yes, SPLm was acoomunist before and that was the reason why acquired Guns from Cuba, Russia, and part of Jamus(gun) in Libya, and accomodation from Magistu Hail Mariem.

Please don,t think of a man of today, ok! you have to distance yourself from refugees reasoning other tell me about what you know about SPLM.
    Thanks
