Huge turnout for elections in Sudan’s Jonglei state

By Philip Thon Aleu

April 11, 2010 (BOR) – A marvelous turn-up is evident in Jonglei State on the first day of polling. Thousands of people scarified Sunday’s prayers to make history through in the first multiparty elections in Southern Sudan.

In all polling stations visited today, voters remained calm and the atmosphere was peaceful. In over ten polling stations in Bor town, the capital of Jonglei State and nearby Payams of Makuach and Baidit toured by Sudan Tribune today, voting started on time and polling staffs affirmed the situation was quiet. Supporters of different political parties never registered any challenge related to polling.

The first time voters in Jonglei State see the participation in these elections as historical. After casting his vote in Malek Secondary School on Sunday, the caretaker Gov. Kuol Manyang Juuk who is the SPLM candidate for Jonglei governorship expressed his joy.

“This is the happiest day in my life,” Mr. Kuol Manyang said. “I am impressed that the people of Jonglei State are able to participate peacefully in this election to elect a government that will take us [southerners] to 2011 referendum,” he added.

Kuol is contesting against Joseph Duer (NCP) and George Athor Deng (Independent). Both Duer and Athor voted outside Bor town.

Some voters’ names were, however, not found on voter list. The NEC officials said a thorough check of names will help to retrieve those mistakes. Voters’ names were not publicized early. The names are arranged alphabetically but the illiteracy is high.

Meanwhile, the business in the town runs normally though the traffic flow is low since many town residents left to their respective constituencies to vote.

The April 2010 election is part of the implementation for the comprehensive peace agreement signed in 2005 between SPLM and Khartoum government. It is also a step to 2011 referendum for self-determination in the south. Voting ends on Tuesday and votes counting begins immediately. Results will be announced on April 18.

Huge turn-up for elections in Jonglei
    Dear South Sudanese,

It is premature for Kuol Nyang Jock & his greedy, corrupted Dinka-Bors to count their chickens yet in Jonglei. The worst is yet to come. Kuol was heard saying, Taban Deng Gai has to be the governor of Unity State even if it means going to war over it. I said, George Athor has to be the governor of Jonglei even if it means going to war over it.

Soon, the chickens are coming home to roast in mading-bor. The delusional and naive Dinka-Bors need to comprehend this reality.

The Nuers in Jonglei are more closer to the Padang Dinkas & Jaang-Chuor from Duke County compares to the ‘Mujurmins’ trouble-makers-the greedy Dinka-Bors. Therefore, it means war if a Dinka-Bor(Kuol) illegally wins in Jonglei. Kuol is the “butchered of Equatorians and the child-soldiers” during the liberation struggle.

There is no needs for a violence leader like Kuol to lead in Jonglei, period. The Dinka-Bors DECLARE war in Jonglei if they rigg the election to make Kuol wins this election. So, Kuol’s election brings even more ethnic divisions in Jonglei, follows by the worst tribal catastrophic violence confrontations.

Governor Kuol Manyang Juuk is the right leader who can lead Jonglei for some years because his mission is development and the protection of lives in the State.

Yes, Gorge Athor is another leader after Kuol but he will wait for the next term because he is another leader who can response to any aggression in the State and he can protect the lives as well.

To fool Thieling, why making noise instead of you to wage that violence you are talking. Please stop wasting your time for nothing, just wage your war.
    Why talking like little girl.
