April 11, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — Below are a list of irregularities reported by opposition during the first day of voting
– Ballots arriving late to the polling stations
– Insufficient number of ballots at the polling stations
– Polling stations opening later than scheduled
– Names of candidates in the ballots misspelled or assigned the wrong symbol
– Missing names in the voter registration lists at the polling stations or relocated elsewhere
– Political parties unable to secure clearance for their delegates to monitor the voting
– Registering people at the polling stations and allowing them to vote thereafter
– Electoral officials instructing voters to pick the National Congress Party (NCP) electoral symbol
– Children allowed to cast their votes
– NCP tents in the proximity of the polling stations
– Some voters did not have their fingers immersed in ink as required. Some of the ink used was removable.

This is enough to recall the election within 60 days as required by the NEC rules if there is registered irregularities. However lets wait and see untill the last day how if unfolds, otherwise it looks to me like there will be a recall or there could be return to the previois structure of governance as the same people will be reinstated especially in the south and in the north with NCP.

I don’t approve of some of the irregularities reported by the Opposition but I will defend to death their right to say it. All the political parties are shareholders in these elections. It is incumbent upon each party to smooth away any irregularities to ensure free and fair elections. Attacking and counterattacking won’t help much. Leave NCP alone. Who does not know that NCP is another name for a bunch of kleptomaniacs?

In Eastern Equatoria State/ Torit there has been a high turnout in the mornining but due to peoples’ names missing from the voters registers, they were unable to vote.
But soon after the Heads of polling stations were told to begin registering names of the voters and allow them to vote there and then, voting when smoothly up to now.
Although there has been some small irrigularities in those polling stations where voters are force/misled by the polling staff to vote aganist their choices, this occured mostly with uneducated voters and the blind ones.
