Eritrean opposition forces call for unity among them

ADDIS ABABA, April 26, 2004 (ENA) — Eritrea’s opposition forces said that “unity in diversity can be better served in a spirit of mutual understanding and tolerance” and that their “diversity should not be a source of confrontations between all the entities of the opposition camp”.

The All Opposition Forces in Sweden said in a press release that the Eritrean political opposition fronts, parties and movements’ file and rank, in cooperation with civil society and the Eritrean Association for Asylum Seekers in Sweden, met in Stockholm, Sweden, on 13 and 22 April 2004.

The meetings have discussed issues of democracy and human rights respect in Sweden and the violations of these rights by Eritrean residents supporting the dictatorial regime in Eritrea, the release said.

The participants agreed on forming a Transitional Coordinating Committee which will be instrument for the promotion of dialogue between the diverse actors in the opposition camp for democracy and change in Eritrea, the release indicated.

It said that the participants agreed that the need to overcome the threats against human rights and democracy should be faced by all Swedish national and international laws.
