WES authorities distance themselves from burnt ballots

By Julius N. Uma

April 22, 2010 (KAMPALA) – Authorities from Western Equatoria State (WES) government have completely denied accusations of suspected foul play, following the mystery that surrounded Tuesdays’ burning of cast ballots papers for two of its payams.

On Tuesday, the state High Election Committee confirmed that truckloads of cast ballot papers were burnt unknown ‘bandits’, an act that has received widespread condemnation from across the spectrum.

The burnt ballot papers for Yangiri and Yere payams were reportedly being transported from Yangiri in Ezo County and Yere in Mvolo to Yambio for entry purpose, prior to state provincial announcement.

However, an official from the caretaker Governor’s office yesterday told this reporter that it was wrong for speculators to begin pointing fingers at state authorities, saying only proper evidence would justify such acts.

“It’s absurd when hear people blaming our state leaders over very unfortunate incidences like burning of ballot papers. As a government, I believe our leaders are guided by certain ethics and such allegations are outrageous,” the official, speaking on condition of anonymity told Sudan Tribune by phone.

Asked if government had ordered probe into that matter considering the fact that it could undermine the credibility of the whole election process within the state, the official remained cagey, but said everything was under control under the leadership of Jemma Nunu Kumba, the caretaker Governor.

Meanwhile, the National Elections Commission Chairman, Justice Abel Alier has already instructed the state High Electoral body to write an urgent report on matters pertaining to devastating events in Western Equatoria State.

What is the point of voting for cruel SPLA if our own son Kisanga has been denied to exercise his political choice in WES? Years we have been living worse life under the criminal movement of LRA and SPLA has never taken any action to safe the people. What the hell do you think WES and Greater Equatorians should do? I am sick of the word SPLA or whoever is supporting the nowhere party. Kiir and his mongrel are motivated by money, but after all the party has nothing to achieve in their short and long term progress. Kiir’s house or SPLA barrack deserve to be taught a lesion, all the building should be ruined to ash one morning or evening.

These two States, Unity State and WES are having big problem because they are not loyal to SPLM. They are less SPLM loyal.
Since the ballots are burn, then governor Nunu still can serve and governor Taban can also serve in Unity State since their are complains about election. Election must be concelled in these states to stop chaos.
    Thanks
