Two election officials kidnapped amid tight security in Yambio
April 24, 2010 (YAMBIO) — Western Equatoria’s electoral standoff worsened yesterday as the Western Equatoria State is alleged to have ordered the withholding of election results and security personnel dressed in civilian closed had kidnapped some 2 electoral officials, Sudan Tribune confirmed Saturday night.
The situation remained a stalemate, with security and political tension acute in the aftermath of the closely contested gubernatorial election.
The two kidnapped officials are: Alfred Gimigu and Benty Singba, both officials were employed by the State High Election Committee (SHEC) as IT professionals tasked to type elections results.
The two officials have been reported to have been brutally beaten by their kidnappers, but until now nobody knows their exact locations; all the security organs in Yambio have denied their arrest.
They were arrested as they wanted to enter the SHEC compound on Saturday morning.
In another development, Lawrence Sulubia, Head of State High Election Committee (SHEC) in Western Equatoria escaped an apparent assassination attempt on Thursday when a police car was sent to pick him in the middle of the night.
According to the reliable source, Lawrence Sulubia was called by the Police Chief in Western Equatoria Saed in the State Capital Yambio on Thursday at 11 Pm calling him to come and attend a very important meeting.
Following the call, Sulubia decided to call the SPLA Commander to confirm whether it is true that there is meeting. However, the SPLA Commander said, he is at home and denied the meeting.
With this Sulubia decided to inform the Police Commissioner that, He does have a car or transport mean; Saed insisted and said he is sending his own car to pick him, after a short while, a police car arrived at Sulubia’s residence and the police guards stopped them telling them nobody is allowed to see Sulubia during odd hours.
There was no way to insist because Sulubia escaped to sleep outside his house, but police officers continued to search for him in different houses where some people pointed his possible whereabouts, eyewitnesses told Sudan Tribune.
The rest of SHEC officials are either sleeping outside their houses or at the UNMIS compound in fear of being arrested at night.
Sudan Tribune tried its best to contact the SHEC and State officials, their telephone lines were either busy or power off.
Expert on Western Equatoria affairs say, the situation in Yambio is not safe.
Extra SPLA troops have been sent to Yambio and several deployments have been made close to one other in Yambio and all feeder roads within Yambio town and roads connecting Yambio with Maridi and Nzara Counties – nobody is allowed to go neither outside Yambio nor entering Yambio.
Schools and government institutions remain closed with SPLA and police forces patrolling the streets.

It is very very sat to heard that election officials in WES are being threaten. This SPLA/M government has already lost credibility in the eyes of international community. This government needs to change it course before international community stop listening to them.
They need to recognized that CPA was brought by international community for the sake of the people of south Sudan to have freedom from Arab north. They need to stop arresting people and let civilians handle it.

Dr Agany,
First of all, your flimsy arguments will not convince me and others about the issue that we are commending at the moment. I don,t think whether you know what you are talking about. Perhaps, your illussion might help your naratives concerning the issues that you smeshing your mouth.
If you don,t know, then i have right to support governosr that i like in the South. Iam always supporting Taban Deng, Kuol Manyang, Jemma Nunu, Malong Awan, and many others because of their effort that i have seen during the war or during their leadership.
My friend, can you tell me my connection with the governors that i have supported in the South? my relationship is not base on tribe as you claimed but for their dedication works ever since in the moment. You said that i have been commenting base on tribe on Unity State and WES, is that true? i think you might be under the influence for sure. If you know iam Dinka by virtues then is Taban Deng and Jemma Nunu Dinka as well? please stop you murmuring comments because i know what iam talking about the you think.
I know your frustration on SPLM,and it’s because you have no clued about it,let alone your flimsy arguements.
Please stay away from me and JohnMaker because we are supporting the deligent governors because of their effort but not base on their tribe. They are different tribes if you don,t know. What is the national approach you talking about if you are not influence by grass. Please i hate traitors and weak heart people like you, caution!
