Jonglei election results: Kuol Manyang wins governorship

April 25, 2010 (BOR) – The state electoral committee announces Kuol Manyang Juuk (SPLM) as the winner for the post of Jonglei State governorship here on Sunday. Kuol Manyang leads by a wide margin ahead of his main rival George Athor Deng (Independent).

Winner-1.jpgThe Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), that rules the semi-autonomous region, lost a seat of a sitting minister in what is seen as fallback to the party’s prediction of scoring 100% victory in Jonglei State.

Ten days after the official conclusion of voting; Mecak Ajang Alaak, the chairperson of State Election High Commission, said the results for other constituencies (pending completion) will be finalized soon.

To make history as the first elected governor of South Sudan’s vast-populous Jonglei, the incumbent Gov. Kuol Manyang scored 165,387 votes. George Athor Deng (Independent) comes second with 67,639 votes as Joseph Duer Jakor (NCP) trails with 16,704 votes.

Though the SPLM wins all but one of the parliamentary seats went to another candidate so far. A race involving an independent candidate wasn’t easy according to the margin of vote differences. And thus, John Luk Jok (SPLM), the current South Sudan minister of energy and mining from Akobo South losses to Timothy Taban Juoch (Independent).

From Gok South (in Bor County) to Duk Constituencies of greater Bor region, the SPLM won all the parliamentary seats accept Athoc North that awaits election rerun.

Philip Thon Nyok (Bor town, SPLM), Benjamin Malek Alier (Gok South for Juba assembly, SPLM), Ezra Mayom Ngong (Gok South for Bor assembly, SPLM), Maker Chol Adol (Gok North for Bor assembly, SPLM), Michael Makuei Lueth and Dengtil Ayuen Kur, are declared winners in Bor County’s constituencies.

Deng Dau and Peter Aguer, both SPLM, won in Twic East County Constituencies for Juba and Bor assemblies respectively. Other seats are still to be announced.

Philip Thon Leek and Abiel Chan both SPLM from Duk County constituencies for Juba and Bor assemblies respectively beat their rivals to halt any chance of balancing the lawmakers in the houses of representatives.

Citing transportation constraints, Mecak Ajang says final results for other constituencies reached the State Headquarters lately including those from Pigi and Pibor Counties which arrived at dawn of Sunday.

In an interview to Radio Jonglei today at his home in Khorfulus, George Athor Deng the challenger for Jonglei governor, called on Jonglei citizens to remain calm after the release of elections results. The broadcast was made minutes before elections results were announced and Mr. Athor had not been aware.

Kuol Manyang Juuk, a former rebel fighter for the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A), was appointed governor of Jonglei State on December 6, 2008. He assumed the State office on 24th December that year. Mr. Kuol, an engineer by profession, served in the SPLA to a rank of Lt. General before retiring to civil services following the signature of Comprehensive Peace Agreement in January 2005.

The situation remain calm in the State capital Bor after the announcement was made over Radio Jonglei 95.9 FM amidst delays by State election body that the head office in Khartoum have to confirm the election outcomes to avoid confusions. The public now awaits reaction from election losers.

Congratulations to Kuol Manyang. I don’t think there is anybody who is going to dispute the results of the election in Jonglei’s state. It seemed voting went on peacefully in that state and that is the example of democracy that should be exercised in the rest of Southern Sudan. People have the right to vote out people they don’t feel should represent them. I hope the democratic space will open more after the referendum so that Southern Sudan can be a prosperous and democratic nation.

    Dear readers,

Kuol Manyang is a smart thief or call it moderately “vote grabber.” He is like his uncle John Garang. So the case is like uncle like nephew.

Kuol Manyang manufacted ballot boxes in Bor town (the first manufacturing industry in the state).

He distributed those tens of thousands of extra ballot boxes to soldiers and ten years old kids to vote.

The whole SPLA division in Jonglei state was directed to move from station to station voting for Kuol Manyang.

To tell the truth, Kuol was elected by the SPLA forces under such directives and NOT by the citizens or civilians in Jonglei state.

So the case is purely a “vote grabbing” but in a smart way unlike the indiscriminate “vote inflation” done by Taban Deng Gai after the results were already out!

    Dear readers,

A Nuer elder predicted before elections that Kuol Manyang Juuk will remain the governor of Jonglei state in fulfillment of Prophet Ngundeng Bong’s prophecy that Bor will be finally destroyed in the hands of their own son. This will be a result of actions by their own son…

    This has now come true.

Kuol himself will destroy Bor, some of them will escape to Bahr el Ghazal and the rest will be scattered as permanent IDPs in the South.

“Gaat jaang ni Bor puom nie keelo bia yiic ni joo luak,” Ngundeng said it.

“Jaape yiene Bor goak liepe ha ni looc, ca bi ngal ben taa ke laat ti laate kone marol.”

Bor town will become a Nuer land very soon before 2011.

Please this is Ngundeng’s prediction for things to come soon. No me and don’t be angry at me….

Jonglei election results: Kuol Manyang wins governorship
    To All readers

All medias including Jonglei State Rporter Philip Thon, knew that George Athor Deng won the election.

The coward Dinka Bors turn him down because George Athor Deng is from Ngok who are asumilated thenselves to Nuer cultural, because Ngokians don’t like that Dinka Bors stupid cultural mark that look like chicken legs on their faces.

Congratulation for stealing the election from the winner is the big punishment from God. The fact is Governor Kuol Manyang Juuk has a right to steal the election from George Athor Deng, because Taban Deng Gai started first.

All incumbent governors will steal the election from the winner Independent candidates and that is becuase Taban Deng Gai has started first.

I think the next plan for Independent candidates will be to call an ennergency meeting that will include Dr. Lam Akol, to decide for going back or over throw down that stupid corruption party (SPLA/SPLM) for the good of the country future.

    Thanks
