Random shooting kills businessman in Rumbek market

May 1, 2010 (RUMBEK) – A lone gunman has carried out a random shooting in Rumbek market killing a businessman at his shop on Saturday morning.

State government official affirmed that the crazy man confiscated a gun from a SPLA soldier and immediately opened gunfire in Lakes state market killing one man and two people are admitted in Rumbek hospital under critical condition.

James Soro Enoch, a former soldier of Lakes state main correctional prison laid off by administration due to for mental troubles, is responsible for the murder of a businessman and he is under arrest, said Lakes state caretaker Governor Telar Ring Deng

James Soro, had allegedly captured a gun from an SPLA solider in Rumbek market; during electoral period. At the time, the state government formed a join force composed of police, SPLA, prisons and wildlife members to patrol the town with aim to discourage dissuade any party from resorting to violence during the elections.

This incident hampered the celebration of SPLM victory which was supposed to be held in Rumbek Freedom Square on Saturday.

Speaking to Radio Rumbek, SPLM Lakes state assistant secretary for political affair Cde, Malou Moses Majok, regretted the murder saying today’s victims were member of his party.

“We were supposed to celebrate with our supporters the rightful election of the state governor but we fall short due to this unexpected incident today,” he added.

David Nok Marial, deputy governor and a minister of Local Government and Law Reinforcement Agency also deplored the murder and blamed the negligence of the SPLA solder who allowed a mentally ill man to seize his gun.
