General Dau tells General Athor to leave his ancestral village for Juba

By Ngor Arol Garang

May 2, 2010 (WUNROK) – The former Independent candidate Major General Dau Aturjong Nyuol, whose elections results in the southern state of Northern Bahr el Ghazal, were announced against his favor, has on Sunday asked his comrade at arms, Lieutenant General George Athor Deng, to consider leaving his ancestral village of Rut for either Juba or elsewhere.

Both Athor and Dau are long known friends at arms and had also contested recently concluded polls independently after failing to secure endorsement of their candidatures by political bureau of the southern ruling party, the SPLM. All of them contested against SPLM official nominees in their respective states of Jonglei and Northern Bahr el Ghazal.

They have all conducted huge rallies during electoral campaigns and Dau led preliminary results amid reports and accusations of intimidations, forced voting, expulsion and arrest of agents representing political contenders at most polling stations.

Considering their personal relationship, General Dau Aturjong in an interview with Sudan Tribune on Sunday said he thinks that George Athor has to leave his village to stop allegations of his involvement in the attack.

“I think it is better for General Athor to leave (to Juba) so that claims about his involvement in the attack due to his presence in the area cease immediately,” General Dau said. “His presence in the area is being misused. I suggest him to leave for the moment regardless of family and relatives matters he would like to attend. He should leave,” said General Dau.
On Friday 30, April 2010, officials from southern army and cabinet members in the regional government of southern Sudan, during a weekly cabinet meeting in Juba, accused openly General Athor of an attack on SPLA base at Doleib hills, 12 kilometers south west of Malakal Town, Capital of Upper Nile State.

15 members from the southern Army were reported to have been killed in the attack. Five of the deceased were reported to be officers, three of them comes from Awan Chan, home to current GOSS president Salva Kiir Mayardit. Ten were soldiers. No casualties among the civilians in the area and its adjacent sides have been reported as it was a clash between military elements.

However, General Athor in series of interviews including an interview with Sudan Tribune on Saturday at his home village of Rut, denied any involvement in the attack but accepted that a clash within southern army in his name had occurred.

He said did not order any attack and had never held any meeting anywhere to consider launching attack on any military posts. According to him, a fight broke out within southern army at Doleib Hills area because officers and soldiers refused instructions from commanding officer to go to his house and disarm him with bodyguards.

    Dear South Sudanese,

I have to thank major general Dau Aturjok for his great messege to George Athor Deng to either go to Juba or some place else so that this messed be clear out because their might be several elements of peace in this case.
I agree with Majot general Dau because this is not going to be pleasant because we have lost the lives simply for just power greed or something else.
A leader need to be calm like Dau Aturjok to be relected back when he choose to run again while those who thing will get the result be bullet, they will get that leadership somewhere not through democracy. Lt Athor need to go to juba other things will not be pleasant because those who die have their loyal friends or relatives. Thanks

That’s really a wise and an excellent advice general Dau that you suggest for your friend. I believe his staying there might cause more death if th SPLA learn his involment. However, I think that Lt. general George Athor should follow your steps and distance himself from messing around because politic is like a game. You can lose if you don’t play hard enough. Don’t kill your people George Athor and don’t also destroy your reputation while you’re a respected general. Take it easy man because the really democracy is coming soon. I believe you’ll luck next time if you keep yourself in a low profile for now just like other Independent candidates who are treated unfairly as if they’re not true Southerners. I am a diehard SPLM supporter, but I deplore the dirty game that SPLM try to copy from NCP.

General Dau is not giving his friend a good advice, how can General George can go to Juba while he was formally accused of staging an attack on SPLA barrack unless he want to be immediately arrested and labelled as someone who caused security threaten and it is not easy to shed off those accuses.

the political can play a hard part in this because inside the movement there some officials who are against George athor, one of them is the internal affair minister Gier chuong Aluong. Back in 2008 Chuong snubbed Athor and didnt show up at a peace conference between the Atar and Khorfulus.
General Athor related the following incident prove what i said:
” Yei reconciliation meeting was attended by Oyai Deng Ajak, Deng Alor Kuol, Pagan Amum Okiech, James Hoth and among other prominent leaders of the Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement/ Army (SPLM/A) and that Gier and himself took an oath to unite following the slaughtering of a goat as a sign to stop a blood shed among the two communities but at the end, Gier broke his promise.”

I think there are other splm leaders who are against Athor and going to juba to plead his case to the party is not a good idea at the moment.

Why focusing on the “three slained SPLA officers”? If you were a trained and qualified journalist you would have been sued for blackmailing ,defamation and many other charges which comes with false reporting.

Please refrain from making such remarks in your next article or else we will be writing about you tommorrow in that manner!

    Dear black Lion

Your nickname disqualifies you to fit in the world of politics totally, anyway, you are a new barking dog.Let me introduce you to the World of politics before I bombard you with the word of most destruction (WMD) and not Word of mass destruction. What were you and what are you now in the Government of Southern Sudan?Do you really differentiate false and truths?

I always turn deaf ears to your days today comments thinking that you were going to change but I won’t this time because most of you are trying to play a joke on Dinkas’ name.If we would have not taken arms against the Sudan government in 1983;you would have remained slaves for ever and ever.Instead of giving us an appreciation;you have turned against us for no good motives.

Bear in mind that;whoever against Dinkas will remain in pieces and we shall remain in peace.I like my community if you don’t like your community.Dinkas are the only big fish in River Nile for they are fearless people.Whoever thinks that he will take leadership from us by force will die before he gets it.

Thick headed people will blame me for my comments but it is something normal and usual that,if a child cries for razorblades you have to give it to him or her.I had not decided to talk against anybody but due to what they did to my community made me lost my control and I won’t stop there.

    Dear all
Dinkas are not against anybody in Southern Sudan as well as Sudan at large a part from our common enemy (Arabs).Whichever community wants to rule Sudan or Southern Sudan is highly welcome if they are not going to collaborate with Arabs again like what Joseph Lago did in 1972.Equatorains have already lost their chance and change knocks once.I always hear from my schoolmates in.That Dinkas are fond of being called Beny(leader).According to what I know,in Nuer community or wherever they are, if your child attempt to call you baba, you have to take him or her to a prison for not calling you ‘Kuoormidit.’

we should not create chaos among ourselves. I personally did not seconded Southern Sudan election because people have now believed themselves as those who can lead. Now, referendum is near and people are creating insecurity, how can our enemy be with us.

Gen. Athor has spoils his image from SPLM,
