Church urges reconciliation in Eastern Equatoria

May 1, 2010 (TORIT, Eastern Equatoria) – The Catholic Bishop of Torit
Diocese, on Sunday, called on the winners, in the recent elections to
reconcile and unite to help in the healing of the political wounds
they had caused during the campaigns in the state.

Bishop Johnson Akio Mutek told journalists in Torit that the political
race was a competition among winners but only one could take the lead,
he added that, “there are no losers in politics as people normally
take it or understand.”

He said that, “those who did not succeed should concede defeat,
refrain from straying from the path of peace and accept to work in
harmony with the winners while they wait to present their ideals to
the voters in the next elections.”

Bishop Akio further, called on the political candidates to forgive one
another and reconcile each other for any wrongs that happened during
the campaigns and the elections in order to attain peace in the
country.

He added that the Pope was concerned about peace in the Sudan and
asked Christians and Moslems to live in harmony when the bishops
visited the Holy See last March.

Bishop Akio asked the Sudanese to pursue peace and justice to achieve
joy, adding that even other members of the Vatican also raised similar
concerns about peace in the Sudan.

The catholic Bishop of Torit reiterated that the closeness of the
Sudan elections to the Easter celebrations was historic since the
country requires healing and resurrection from its bloody past.

Equatorians are seem and criticized as first class people in Sudan for the fact we love to live in peace, reconciliation and forgiveness are the only keys in our society. Taking gun and shooting your own people like what had just happened in Jongolie is the worse reputation ever. We are in modern World where academic is the major tool for success. The only proud people and region in Sudan is Greater Equatoria.
