Ethiopia’s Meles invited to join G20 Toronto summit

May 9, 2010 (ADDIS ABABA) – Ethiopian Prime minister Meles Zenawi, along with four other leaders is invited to attend the G20 summit in Toronto next month.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the host nation, Canada announced that leaders of Ethiopia, Malawi, the Netherlands, Spain and Vietnam as special invitees who will join leaders of the permanent members of the 20 industrialized and developing countries at the June 26-27 summit.

World’s leading economic powers (G8) will hold their annual summit in June 25-26 in Ontario, Canada ahead of the G20 summit. During their summit, the leaders of the G8 countries are expected to develop a common approach to address the urgent challenges the world is facing.

The G20 countries are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, South Africa, South Korea, United Kingdom, United States and the European Union.
Other participants include the international monetary fund, World Bank, the international monetary and financial committee and the development committee of the international monetary and World Bank.
