May 10, 2010 (RUMBEK) — Elements of the southern Sudan army, SPLA, in Mapel township of Western Bahr el Ghazal state brutally beat SPLM official journalist James Deng Dimo on Sunday after finding him taking general view pictures inside market.

James had been badly beaten by the SPLA soldiers in Mapel market on Sunday while he was walking with his digital camera. The soldiers were controlling civilians in the market.

“What they did first was that they sent me one of their officers who asked me where I come from and told him that I come from Wau and I am a Journalist working for SPLM State Secretary. But when he produced his ID card and his travelling permission the solder said his documents are false and began by pulling him calling some of his colleagues to beat him.

He further said they beat him until they tore his cloths and tied his hands behind and ordered him to jump into their car with his hands tied behind the back, said James.

“I was taken to their chief inspector whose name is Lasu sitting alone in office. He first asked me in his local language (Kakwa of Bari language) “Duo Deen Nan?” Which means do you know me?”

But when his response was negative the officer looked behind to his bodyguard and asked them to take James away for more uncountable lashes.

The unfortunate journalist said he was released only when some people in the base identified him and told the official who they called “chief Lieutenant Lasu” that the detainee is the the state SPLM photograph.

Then the officer accepted to release James but warned him if he asks for his belongings they will beat him again, James said.

The SPLA failed to achieve its transformation from a guerilla to a conventional army, observers say. Lack of discipline and aggressive behaviour still dominate the mentality of the southern Sudan soldiers, five years after the end of the war.

To all the respected readers of ST..

IT HAS BEEN SAID IN THE ANCIEN GREEK TIME;DEMCRACY IS A FIRE,BURNING BOTH, THE AUTHORITY THAT DOES NOT EMBRACE IT,AND THOSE WHO CLAIM IT,ENDORSE IT AND ENFORCES IT IN THEIR DAILLY LIFE”.

Is it a democtratic principle to question a National Citizen, without any suspicious bases, like the way Bro: James been questioned???and why a Sudanese, especially a Souther Sudanese citizens, requires travel permits???Are not we free nation yet???

SPLM/A had undermined the last artichle of its Manifesto, and sent us the message very clear;that there is nothing called freedom or democracy!!!So enjoy your rants on the web, while it’s not censored yet….

Our fallen heros has died in vain, sorry

SPLA?SPLM is full of political criminal corruption.

It is time for Southern Sudan people to joint LT. General George Athor Deng to overthrow down this stupid party as soon as possible, or this country gonna run red with blood in just a matter of time, if you don’t change this party.

SPLA party is the only party againts human rights in Southern Sudan.

Stealing the election from independent candidates, raping teenaagers girls and women, looting, killing civilians, burning the lips or mouths of the people and burning the dead people in the house are the only main goals, SPLA are doing in Southern Sudan.

These kind of criminal act againts civilians are enough evidence to change SPLA party.

    Thanks

We do not know real what will need to be done to SPLA soldiers in order to know human right laws or to work in conventional formats that shows that they are state army to defend their citizens.First all if the offcier in charges dosen,t know how to read the legal document he should have call some one who really know how to read the important papers to identify person which has been suspected of doing wrong things. This journalist has done nothing wrong to be beated in that ways while he was sent to do the missin of governement by agent authority . lsau you are inlegitmate in your position being chief inspector.
