60 killed in Darfur after clashes between Sudanese police and JEM rebels
May 14, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — At least 60 policemen and rebels have been killed in fighting between the Sudanese police and rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), in South Darfur, police say.
Police General Mohamed Abdel Majid Al-Tayed, spokesperson of the Sudanese police said in a statement published by the official SUNA that 27 police officers and 30 rebels were killed when JEM attacked a police convey in Al-Dha’ein – Nyala highway on Thursday.
He further said the policemen killed in addition three leading commanders among them Hamad Shatta and destroyed 5 vehicles used by JEM fighters. He added that they are pursing now the remaining rebel force.
JEM suspended its participation in the Doha peace talks early this month accusing the Sudanese army of breaching a truce they agreed with the government last February.
In statement to Sudan Tribune today, the joint chief mediator Djibril Bassole urged the warring parties to stop violence in the restive region of Darfur to create a conducive environment for the resumption of the peace talks.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that the interior minister and police director general were in Nyala today and held a meeting with the security committee in the state and visited the wounded people among the police force.

Now see the situation in Darfur, alot of people are dying and many of them especially the civilian are being displaced by the deadly war that has resume between Justices and Equality Movement and Government in Khartoum,what about the mediation that you urges two parties to have closed door meeting again but it is today dismissed by the leader of JEM.there are no polices who have fought the soldiers of JEM but this was just an organizes forces [Jijaweed militias].Bashir is a president of dead and displaced people.Dr:Khalil must fire those dam forces who wore police uniform and even SAF such that they know who you are , Bassole who is the mediator of Darfur peace in Doha was just playing in a mere stand of dead political situation to called for a meeting in order to earn and get some dollars from Sudan government such that they set self -styled conspiracy but it was discovered by Dr: Khalil to dismissed it.
