Warrap Governor urges to desist reprisal attacks

May 14, 2010 (WUNROK) — Authorities from southern state of Warrap have urged citizens to desist from inter-clan conflicts and revenge; stressing reprisal attacks do not have any benefits.

“There is nothing beneficial from tribal conflicts with reprisal attacks. Revenge is not the best way to getting solution to grievances, General Mathok said.

Addressing a traditional gathering attended by chief representatives from all sections in the state, in Kuajok town, Capital of Warrap State, on Friday, Caretaker Governor, General Mathok, said due to sentiments driven by their clans, the cattle keeping communities in the whole south have continued to fuel cattle rustling, insecurity and worked against the disarmament programs.

Cattle keeping communities in the whole South Sudan not only in Warrap continue to be the source of insecurity because of regular attacks for rustling. “Cattle raiding are the major cause of insecurity in Warrap now,” he said urging stoppage of the practice.

“We must move away from this practice and find how best to promote the prosperity for all programs so that we eradicate household poverty and ensuring food security in our homesteads.”

“This practice encourages no peaceful coexistence and better border relations,” he added.

The UNMIS identified the lack of roads and infrastructures and rooted state institutions as main cause of the tribal violence in the semi autonomous region

Last year David Gressly, Coordinator for Southern Sudan who serves in the region since 2004, told reporters that the continuing violence in the semi-autonomous region is a “direct consequence” of civil war, the high level of armament among civilians, frictions between communities over resources like land, water, pasture.
The governor told a traditional gathering that weaknesses within the security forces would be sorted out soon to ensure safety of residents at the borders.

He further said government has good developmental plans in the state and that focus would be given to agriculture and education. Focus of the government of southern Sudan in all the state and Warrap in particular where development would be through empowering agriculture, he said adding this will be done through relevant ministries and departments.

The caretaker governor also thanked traditional leaders for supporting the SPLM, saying this would enable the government to implement programmes such as ensuring security and conduction of referendum.

He assured them that the SPLA is strong enough to protect them if they embrace the disarmament programme.

General Mathok called the meeting with traditional chiefs in order to dissuade them from launching reprisal attack on their neighboring tribe in Unity State following recent clash over cattle theft in Amol, North West of Marial Lou rural hospital in Tonj East County, Warrap State.

90 cattle were reported to have been driven away by raiders identified as members belonging to section within Nuer tribe of Mayom County, Unity State. The clash also witnessed death toll of 14 people and left 2 wounded on Tuesday 04.

Warrap Governor urges to desist reprisal attacks
I did my best to listen carefully to the recorded speech of Mr Biong since the recording was not clear and mixed English and Arabic for four times to make sure what I hear is right.

The allegations, is not baseless there are some facts and it is true that Mr Biong mentioned that Bakosoro just left with two options, either to join SPLM party or he will stay in office for just a year then he will be voted out of office by voting of no confidence since the majority in the legislative are SPLM.

The denouncement will be accepted if those words and the speech is not from Mr Luka Biong. It is clear that the speaker mentioned about WES and the Independence candidate HE Bakosoro to be voted out in one year. I think that is not a false allegation it is a fact and those who are trying to denounce and consider as false should not because there are evidence recorded voice that brings more evidence.

I argue some of you guys to listen carefully to that message. That message will rise eye brow to those who will get the message clear. God bless WES from the heartless people who does not want any good for our mom land.

If you want to listen go to youtube type (ngbanigbe)you will hear it your self and more he SAID TRIBALISM IS NORMAL I called the person who recoeded the speech indeed Mr Biong is sending mixed massage. Mr Biong not this time that we are prepering to make record our future. You are very wrong here….
