Sudan accuses rebels of attacking relief convoys in Darfur
KHARTOUM, April 29, 2004 (dpa)– The Sudanese government on Thursday accused rebel groups of attacking convoys transporting humanitarian aid in western Sudan.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs said rebels attacks convoys en route from el-Fashir to the Ambro region in northern Darfur state.
The government charge is the latest in a series of accusations
claiming rebel violations of the 45-day ceasefire agreement signed in neighbouring Chad.
Rebel sources were not available for comment.
The release said the attackers kidnapped three community leaders, who were leading the convoy. The rebels looted three trucks loaded with relief items, the government charged.
