“So far, 22,838 illegal arms have been recovered from civilians,” Kiir told the cheering crowd at his inauguration ceremony today in Juba and expressed hope that this trend will be maintained to enhance security for all people in the streets, workplace, residential areas and the rural homes.

“This is not the end of the exercise. It is the beginning,” President Kiir said announcing further that the government will continue disarming civilians and appealed to all community leaders to cooperate with government agents to rid the region of illegal arms.

“I appeal to all community leaders to fully extend unreserved cooperation to security apparatus involvement in the collection of illegal arms from civilians across the region,” he said.

In another development, President Kiir vowed that his new government will embrace affirmative action for the women and youth. He announced that he will reserve 30 percent of all government positions for women. This pledge will see its effect at the cabinet of the new government, heads of independent commissions, undersecretaries, directors general, directors and all other cadres of civil service.

He also pledged that his government will abide by all international conventions relating to gender equality. On the youth, the president said the new government will give the young people opportunity at all levels of government. But was quick to urge youth pursue self-employment avenues and not to rely only on government jobs alone.

He also pledged to spearhead reconciliation initiatives saying it will be a high priority of the new government.

Southern Sudan has suffered myriad conflicts for decades that he will do his best to reconcile the people. “I shall not go back to history but will unite all the people to live at peace with each other”, Kiir said. He also urged all leaders to play a role in reconciliation initiatives saying that this is the only way the region and Sudan at large can forge ahead. “Let us heal our wounds, preach harmony and forgive each other”, he emphasized.

He also revealed that his administration will accommodate leaders and representatives of all political forces including minority political parties in Southern Sudan in his new government as a way of integrating divergent ideologies in the government.

President equally asked the pastoralists of northern Sudan, Reizgat and Messeirya, to consider peaceful coexistence with their Southern counterparts living along the North-South borders and not to be deceived to fight unjustified wars.

Additionally, he pledged to honor and support war veterans and heroes and announced that a new ministry of SPLA and War Veterans Affairs will be created in the new cabinet to spearhead these efforts.

He promised that the government will provide education opportunities for soldiers and orphans, establish special funds for the disadvantaged groups, as well as develop a retirement package for the veterans and the families of those who may have died during the liberation struggle.

President Kiir further reiterated that he will implement a policy of zero-tolerance on corruption and maintained that all the people who will be appointed to public offices will be expected to operate above board and show high levels of integrity.

He announced that he will appoint an advisor on anti-corruption who will also evaluate the performance of the public officers, strengthen management systems and seal loopholes exploited by unscrupulous officers. He also announced that all public officers will continue to declare their individual and family assets and liabilities within three months of taking office.

Other priorities of the new government will include facilitating the implementation of the remaining components of the CPA including the self-determination referendum of Southern Sudan in 2011.

“I am grateful to all of you and will not betray you,” Kiir said.

Congratulation President Kiir Mayardit. Good luck with your administration because you deserved this presidency in the South due to your dedication and struggle during the wartime. Since you are the only high rank leader left,no one can compliant for you because dedication always count.

I encouraged you that insecurity in the South has increased alot. There must and should be law against cattle raiding in the South. Death sentence or shooting in squart must be the solution to the criminal found raiding or stealing the cattle of civilians. Thanks

    Jamus,

Dear brothers, thank you guys for wasting your spare time on this website. I would like to help both of you because your writing contain nothing that can help us. Mr Jamus, the leadership is not like ration whereby every person has the same share of ration. Why not you distribute the ministries position base on ethnicity during the war. Those people must role you even if they are in one state. Please, who prevent you to leave your village in response to Arab aggression.

Please, let dedicated minister serve for this time so that they can take the South to referendum because if you and likes take office, then the referendum will be anightmare because you know only how to eat and no more than that. You also know how to hide in Arab umbrella. Good luck with your ration distribution.

    Dear readers,

A QUIZ TO THINK ABOUT IN THE SOUTH!

The mystery of “21” digit which marks some special events, good and bad in the South.

1/ Do you know why the first agreement between North and South Sudan on self-determination and referendum was signed on 21st April 1997?

2/ Do you know why the North-South war of SPLM/A took us 21 years?

3/ Do you know why John Garang took only 21 days in office and died after taking oath?

4/ And now do you know why Salvatore Kiir took oath on 21st May 2010?

Please think about that digit “21” which you are stumbling over and instead walking into it like blind without walking sticks.

    Ahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…………………..

Long live self-determination through referendum leading to full independence!

Long live the champions of self-determination!

Long live the people of South Sudan!

May God bless South Sudan this year with the long awaited change!
