Leaders from Murle community arrested in Juba

June 2, 2010 (JUBA) – A number of political and military leaders from the Murle community of Pibor County in Jonglei state have been arrested in the South Sudan’s capital, Juba.

Speaking to Sudan Tribune by phone on Wednesday in addition to a statement she emailed from Nairobi, Kenya, Mary Boyoi, a popular South Sudanese female artist and member of the Murle Community, said among the leaders arrested on Tuesday included her uncle who previously tried to contest for parliamentary seat during the April elections.

“Last night I talked with my mother. She called me from Juba and informed me that my uncle, William Boren, and four other leaders from the Murle community were arrested at their place of businesses and homes by Military Intelligence.”

“I was very shocked to hear this news and extremely concerned for the reason of their arrest. At this point my family has not heard from my Uncle and no one is clear as to why they were arrested. Some of the rumors from the Murle community say they have been detained because of the issue of George Athor and his rebellion,” she explained.

Mary Boyoi further explained that her uncle was initially a nominee of the SPLM Political Bureau, but his nomination was later on canceled while he did not react negatively to the move.

“For myself I cannot believe this to be true. My Uncle applied to run as an MP with SPLM. He was nominated and then that nomination was canceled. He accepted that. He did not attempt to run as an Independent or with another party. He stayed true to his commitment with SPLM. He has been a strong SPLM/A supporter since the late 80’s. He was one of the first Murle to join the movement,” she further explained.

The other men arrested also have been high ranking SPLA commanders and long time SPLM members, she added.

Mary Boyoi also explained that her uncle and others were denied to cast their ballot papers during the April elections because their names were already used by unknown individuals who used them to cast their votes.

“I know they all went to Pibor to vote. The day they were going to vote they found that their names had already been used to cast the ballot. So they left Pibor and returned to Juba. They did not involve themselves in any “rebellion”.

Pibor County has recently witnessed a military standoff between the forces of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) and supporters of David Yauyau, a former independent candidate who was angered by the alleged rigging of elections results and reportedly coordinated the move with the renegade former SPLA Deputy Chief of General Staff, George Athor Deng.

“My greatest fear now is that my Uncle is [could be] dead. I have lost so many family [members] and friends during the war. My Uncle is now the only one I have. I don’t want something bad to happen to him from his own comrades. He has always believed in SPLM/A, and has never worked against them,” she concluded.

    Dear Mary,

Like its said, “there is no smoke without fire” I believe that there is something behind their arrest. As a matter of fact, SPLM is not against Murlei community. I think the military intelligence find out that your uncle support renegade Gen. George Athor, and that might be the reason why they’re arrested. So don’t worry they’ll be fine.

Mary don,t worry about the life of your uncle as you said It is obvious since the inception of the movemnet in the early 80S that SPLM/A dosen,t not kills its citizens and do not have intention to harm them I thinks those who were arrested in Juba yesterday by inteligences security forces has been arrested for some reasons that they committed and I do believe that security agent has been satisfied beyond the reasonable doubt for their involvement. Hi Mary, if you were wise enough then, you should have advised your uncle from back-benching and crossing the SPLM’s national highway to everlasting solutions to wars between the Southerners and Arabs. Your uncle is therein for discipline and to become a loyal citizen soon when he will be released. If I were you, I would have started to blame my uncle, for taking this dangerous decision; and myself, for hadn’t advised him before hand!!! But I am not you!! My uncles are not involved in such political attitudes of no confident. Thank Girl by Kuer Dau Apai

Mary, have ever divorced a husband or heard of a friend of yours divorcing?

Politicians do the same. take for example Dr. Lam Akol-he divorced SPLM and formed His terrorist party-the SPLM-DC.

The known plan of the two men – Pagan and Arman – remains to destroy Silva Kiir.

The strangest thing happens … while the intelligence of both men failed to destroy Silva, their stupidity succeed in accomplishing the same mission … succeeding exceptionally.

And Pagan and Arman succeeded in irritating the whole South against Dinka.

With the consultation and approval of Pagan and Arman.

Under the cover of collecting arms from the citizens, the Dinka were slaughtering Southern tribes.

Between 2006 and now, the Dinka collected Neur arms … then attack them on the claim that the Neur stole Dinka cows in 1991 at Tonj.

Afterwards, the Dinka collected the arms from the Bari and started to rape their women.

To get full satisfaction, they were sure to rape women in front of all the family members.

Shortly after that, the Dinka raided Fanjak on the accusation that (Tang) army is hiding there.

They started to move them to an island there to empty the area.

A little while before that, the Dinka were attacking the Lotuko on the assumption that they joined the IRA because they are part of Ashole. But wait a minute! The IRA is made up only of Uganda Ashole!.

After that, the Dinka were disarming the Lotuko and lead Dinka cows to Lotuko pasture land?

Afterwards, the Dinka disarmed the Taposa with a very interesting reason.

The Taposa were attacked on the allegation that the Taposa were attacking Kenyan citizens and that spoils the relations with Kenya!

Not that alone, the Dinka even stole Taposa cows and sold them in Kenya!

Shortly after that, the Dinka were collecting arms from Bantiu citizens because they are (Mattip) militia.

The Morle refused disarmament benefitting from what happened to others. The last year’s wars broke.

The Dinka steals the Morle cows because the Dinka wants to recapture their cows stolen by the Morle during the 80s of the last century.

Last year, the Dinka were stealing the arms of the citizens in WES on the allegation that the IRA moved there supported by Azandi and Moro.

Shortly after that, the Dinka entered Azandi land. And because Azandi have no cows to be recaptured, Azandi were stealing Dinka chickens! Period.

Afterwards, the Dinka went to disarm the Shilluk on the ground that they are the followers of Lam Akol (the strangest thing is that the expedition is lead by Shiluk?) … Pagan is one of them.

Based on the fact that the Shiluk failed SPLM in the last elections, therefore, anyone who rejects Dinka must be killed.

Now, the Dinka alone – Dinka Citizens – are the ones carrying arms – the modern guns.

They carry weapons everywhere and use them freely.

What is happening in the South, in addition to behavior of the SPLM during the last elections, makes the Southern citizen sure that SPLM will use the same tactics of corruption with the forthcoming referendum – so the Dinka will separate the South from the rest of country.

Then, – after secession – the Dinka will have a free hand to do all the evils on earth with the citizens of the South.

But Athor is firing weapons now.

Gai is also making the weapons blast.

The big fire that surrounds the Dinka makes the eyes of Silva Kiir directed to Pagan and Arman and ask them “What is this?”

The answer comes as silence of Pagan and Arman – the mill of talk –during the last two months.

Not the eyes alone, the voices are also getting louder from Khartoum and the rifles from there (the South).

Immediately after elections, the struggle between the highest leaders of SPLM burst (Machar – Silva group – Pagan and Silva group – Pagan and Riek group – the independents’ group). Then there is Athor and Gai armies in the march.

Members of the SPLM North Sector sent a burning letter to Silva Kiir on 29/5/2010 portraying Arman a mere unashamed thief – not more – not less.

The Nuba in South Kordufan are now beating the table with their heavy stick demanding the release of Telephone Koko. Or otherwise.

The militias that were embittered after Juba Declaration have another heavy stick beating.

Last month, the story of the none Dinka SPLA leaders who refused to attack Athor has been told. The refusal this time is the refusal of the whole Dinka power.

Now, the Dinka are reciprocating their refusal with another.

Then a new strange phenomena emerges … The uncertainty and destruction makes tribe leaders and the fragments of the bitter citizens take refuge to “the educated”. The “Tree” in the desert is collecting sands and turns into a dune. The same is happening in the South; the bleeding from the people’s skins under the iron paws of the SPLA is pooling to make a flood. The flood was roaring during the elections “If it was free, not a single Dinka candidate would have won”.
We talk about all this, but the serious talk is the earthquake of what is happening now – on the ground.

Then comes the hard questions by Southerners!

The South is now asking “What SPLM would stands for a month from now?” Does it means the silk black hat? Or it implies a new leadership in a month time?

Is Khartoum ready for this developments?

The fluent and ridiculous question is “If 99% of the Southerners voted for SPLM, who are those fighting SPLM now?

The fluency is providing reasons why Pagan and others are suddenly quiet! They said “Athor who was saying earlier that (I did not threaten to kill anybody, but if I do I will)” is now calling Pagan and others over the phone and say “Pagan? Wait!”

The shivering fingers put the phone and stare silently at the emptiness. Athor is well known lion!.

    Hey dear Sudanese!

Am extremely grateful of being on line to day acting as Sudanese contributor on the Sudanese tribune. Thanks to my dear sister Mary Boyoi for having told her right to the public of Sudan at large. Dear Mary, your uncle will be fined event thought he is now in critical conditions. SPLM as ruling party in Southern Sudan has no authority of killing his members or even to detain them or to put them under bad situations and no one is suppose to be killed with out investigation or even without more details heard from him/her.

But I wish SPLA leaders can follow that man called George Athor for having broke the rules and regulation governing the country. Being A rebel, need lots of equipment and well organize army but him self has no those.where does he think that he is to survive if SPLA leaders look after him ethereally.
Thanks and may God bless yo all

I expect more to happen in Jonglei, but i never anticipate to our sister to use negative language. My Sister Mary: I do not think that you uncle was arrested because he was from Murle Community, I can`t believe that most of the southerners are Tribal minded people, and I am deeply sorry to say that most of you are backward tribalists.
General George Athur and the others failed to win the position and could not achieved their dream and that is possible but what is not natural and human is to violate and abuse your own people and rebel against your state because you failed. Mr Gen. George you are an icon and national hero, I respect you so much, and never expect you to do such a thing like what you have done.
Dear friend Gen George Athur you should have gone to the court to claim your rights instead of fighting your people just to gain self interest.
We should value our state and place our national interest before personal interests.
Let me go to Mary and the others, Please please do not ad alot of fuel on the fire we have seen enough and we have lost enough.
