South Sudan army hunts rebel forces in Unity state

By Ngor Arol Garang

June 4, 2010 (TURALEI) — Military forces of the regional government of South Sudan have entered second day of hunting forces loyal to former southern Sudan police officer, Colonel Galuak Gai, who turned rebel shortly after April elections.

Colonel Gai was previously a militia officer before integrated into southern police in Unity state, after the signing of the comprehensive five years ago, in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi between the two former warring parties, the SPLM and NCP.

Interviews conducted with intellectuals from his home state of Unity indicated that he had never contested any political position at any level having not applied in months leading to nominations of officials candidates at presidential, parliamentary and gubernatorial elections conducted in April.

However, Colonel Gatluak Gai felt the core principles of why southern Sudanese wagged struggle against successive Khartoum regimes were to contrive Sudan towards a new direction, a new direction in which citizens have equal opportunities regardless of their race, creed, color or tribe. This, according to him, implies rights of the citizens to elect leaders of their choice and to promote economic development, prosperity and tolerate ethnic differences.

Therefore, given this background, colonel Gai based on his decision campaigned for Angelina Teny, who independently contested gubernatorial position against SPLM official nominee, Governor Taban Deng Gai after failing to secure approval of her candidature by the SPLM political bureau in January.

Interviews conducted by this reporter with intellectuals in the area
Also indicated that colonel Gai was to be appointed county commissioner had Angelina succeeded.

Unfortunately elections result announced in favor of the SPLM candidate, Governor Taban Deng Gai, provoked his rebellion immediately after declaration of the results.

He engaged five times in the real military exchanges with members of the SPLA forces in the area. His forces on Tuesday clashed with SPLA forces for third time, south west of Mayom County, resulting into immediate killings of eight members of his forces and capturing of 13 others alive.

General Kuol Deim Kuol, SPLA spokesperson on Friday told Sudan Tribune from Juba that southern armed forces clashed again this morning with fifteen members of his forces at Mankien, a rural village in Mayom County.

They clashed again today with our forces and are on a run with forces pursuing them. Our forces are still engaged in a hot pursuit with instructions to crash them once and for all if they refuse to surrender, General Kuol said.

He also said he has information that they are divided into three weak groups of which one of them is heading to a no man area just toich (swampy) into Warrap State. Another one is running northward while group of fifteen men clashed today with our forces. The intentions of this group are to surrender but fear how to surrender, he said.

As for those heading toward Warrap State, our forces in division 4 (four) there have received instructions to crash them upon arrival or accept to surrender, he adds.

General Kuol also disputed reference attaching and describing three senior rebel ring leaders as SPLA officers who rebelled after elections.

These people were not active SPLA officers. Athor resigned from his position and became civilian. He was no longer an active SPLA officer when he rebelled? David Yauyau was serving with civil servant serving Jonglei state civil administration as SRRC county secretary in Pibor that had nothing with the military to associate him with the SPLA. None of them was an active SPLA officer; he said stressing that Colonel Gai was police officer in unity state

    Dear Readers,

The so-called Kuol Deim kuol advocating violence against south sudanese is indeed ” weak management of justice” in south sudan by the corrupted SPLA military leadership. The incompetence SPLA spokesman is nothing but war-monger. However, the high reality is that it is easier to say so & so captured “alive or dead”. It is easier said than done, Mr. incompetence Kuol. You are wrong on your death propaganda. You are only propagating your death and that of the whole SPLA itself. So, you are your worse own enemies.

It doesn’t really matter if SPLA killed so and so anymore. It is a revolution. SPLA can kill so many revolutionaries like Gatluak Gai, George Athor or Yauyau, but the revolution goes on. SPLA would kill so many revolutionaries, but not this revolution against the injustice in south sudan. It is spreading like a wildfire. And it is a surefire that south would be engulf in bloody-fire in the next three months. The SPLA’s rigging of election set-off the bomb. GO figure!!

This election for nothing should never have happened or rigged. Now, the Referendum is killed by the same SPLA that claims to represent the interests of the south sudan massess. The ONLY thing left now is the next war of independence south that starts before or immediately after the pre-rigged Referendum in January, 2011. Tell the truth!! South sudan now is at war with itself. SPLA is responsible for igniting the war against itself. How dumb!!

Look at what Deng Alor kuol & kiir just signed with their Jallaba master!? Shame on kiir and Deng Alor for signing off the political rights of south sudanese for the so-called “jallaba unity” of sudan. What about south sudan unity of itself and its independence? Kiir is a foolish leader only on a dog-leash after Deng Alor, Luka Biong, Pieng Deng and the whole 9-yard of Abyei corrupted criminals marauding as leaders representing south sudan interests. How sad!!!

    Thieling,

I only laugh when someone get confuse by a simple case. Indeed, I seriously laugh at you to tears. It seems that you are crying because SPLM/A is responding to the chronic disease that always weaken the moment ever since. Gatluak Gai has been with our predominent enemy for decades;therefore, he has no right to disturb our people at the time we liberate the South by bullet. It’s true that we South Sudanese stood firm during the blace days until Dr John Garang de Mabior open the path of CPA that had offered South Sudanese and the other Margibnalized people to choice their destination next year.I always support militraily action against those who want to play around with our right that we fought for decades in which many people die while others wounded seriously. Gatluak Gai with his militia must be chrashed militrailyor other they must surrounder themselves like the way many militia did before in the SPLM history. Please calm down because SPLM/A is doing the right thing other if everbody is allowed to full out the gun against the South Sudanese because of his/her own greed then the South could not be the viable country. But we SPLA can not allowed any intruder to play around in the South. It’s clear that those of rebels are against their people because of their self interest. Gatluak Gai was proposed to be acommissioner when Angelina Kuma win the governorship. Don.t you think his self-interest promote him to fight SPLA? Inaddition to his militia background for decades. Athor also fight his govermnet because he lose the election. Why not we South Sudanese fail to deplore those individual who really want to fail the South? Haaaaaaa, cry loud but your tears will not change SPLM/A in the South.
    Thanks

    Patriots,

This Col. Gatluak fellow is trying to revert back to the corrupt ways that they learned under Riek machar; where getting anything was done through force. He is angry because his preferred candidate who had promised him a post is defeated. Clearly, this is the case where force is necessary to bring him back to his senses. He will be hunted till he is brought to justice. There are no caves in Southern Sudan.

South Sudan army hunts rebel forces in Unity state with plans on THEIR WHAT???
    Dear Readers,

Let me suggest one quoted that remains in my heart and surely will always be the key of mankind success. the great Mr. and former South African President quoted, A GOOD HEAD AND A GOOD HEART ARE ALWAYS A FORMIDABLE COMBINATION, in other word if SPLA and its Party body SPLM has a great sense of forgiveness and a high standard intellect Admin to deal with corruption and to get to people of southern sudan/northern sudan citizens whom their lives are dependant on their leaderships are to be convinced that war is not on our table anymore so if a citizen or political body member wanted to destined themself from that particular party, it is better to set up a certain of brief warnings whether verbally or written notification and let them realise the fate of their actions aftermath.

SPLA Spokeperson must admire the role of his leaders and to obid the command given by the authority, therefor instead of quoting out the whole sentences given by the High rank soldier, get advice first from theird party member of SPLM and have a good conversation with the miliitary high rank leaders to avoid corruption and possibly a return to the disasterists civil war. my advice to people of southern sudan is that our destine is closing up and if we are to be lead by our mouth and anger not to follow the way of problem solving then we have a lot to learn and who are the victims of our messes???? its not the Westerns worlds its not Our enemies ARABs, its us who get the pain at the end. So its better not to chase our brother out instead its a wise move to bring them and capture them alive so they can sake immediate help and rehab… Peace

    Theiliend

a great statement made by you man…
