State official disputes allegations of arrests

By Manyang Mayom

June 15, 2010 (RUMBEK) – An official of the state government in Northern Bahr el Ghazal has refuted allegations of arrests in the state.

Garang Kuol, an official from the state Secretariat General told Sudan Tribune that he was responding to allegations published in the media which quoted a former independent candidate, Dr. Dhieu Mathok Diing.

Dr. Dhieu alleged that 13 people who were supporters of independent candidates were detained. He further explained that his father had been suspended indefinitely by the state government for having supported independent candidates.

The state official described the allegations as “baseness” and “misleading” to the public of Northern Bahr-El-Ghazal state and the world readers at large. He said the allegation was a fabrication aimed at tarnishing the image of the state government.

“It is therefore puzzling and mind-boggling to learn that Dr. Dhieu continues preaching such unfounded and disuniting statements,” he said.

He advised that people should not dwell on the past differences created by elections but to instead support initiatives and efforts aimed at healing elections wounds and forging a new way forward.

He further explained that the state government was supporting post-elections reconciliation and unity among the people of the state as stated by the state governor’s victory speech in the April elections.

    Dear Aweilans,

There is no smoke without fire. I believe Dr. Dhieu might have something that bother him in governor Malong’s administration. As a matter of fact, I don’t think Dr. Dhieu lie about his dad arrest if this article doesn’t cover something? Governor Malong, election is over, so don’t target those who don’t support you. Politic is just a game!
