Gore criticizes NEC ruling in favor of incumbent Central Equatoria Governor Konga

June 20, 2010 (AKON) – An independent candidate who ran for gubernatorial race and lost to the incumbent governor in Central Equatoria state has questioned the independence of the National Elections Commission (NEC) in the country following the rejection of his appeal by the electoral body against the results declared during the April elections.

General Alfred Ladu Gore has on Sunday reluctantly shown acceptance to recent national elections commission’s ruling in favor of incumbent Central Equatoria State Governor Clement Wani Konga.

Sudan conducted multiparty elections in April after 24 years of successive undemocratic rules in the country. The elections believed as the key to conduct of southern Sudan referendum scheduled to take place in January 2011, saw boycott of heavy weight northern political parties and withdrawal of the Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) presidential candidate, accusing the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) of pre-election fraud.

Gore, a former gubernatorial candidate in Central Equatoria state went to the poll as an independent candidate against SPLM official nominee, Clement Wani Konga, and accused the SPLM of rigging the elections in the state.

The national elections commission, however, announced elections results in favor of incumbent governor and was sworn in, on 28 May as successful candidate notwithstanding receipt of accusations and protests made against results by supporters of General Alfred Gore.

On 18, the national elections commission also announced another results in favor of the three state governors of Unity, Western and Central Equatoria and rejected appeals submitted against it by political contenders who have lost elections, saying all the findings against submissions from each polling stations against each case in each state did not prove irregularities brought against it by the candidates.

Reacting to the result, Gore, in an interview with Sudan Tribune on Sunday said “elections commission did not in the first place show independence as stated by law. The elections commission did not in the first place show its independence as clearly stated by the 2008 election act. All its activities during elections were controlled and so it does not surprise people to see its results are manipulated,” he said.

Asked whether he still has trust and confident in judicial system of Sudan, he said he has never lost trust and confidence in the judicial system only that situations do not allow them to operate as independent institutions.

“I still trust and hold confidence in judicial system only that situations in the country do not allow them to operate independently as they should according to the constitutions,” said Alfred Gore.

While lauding citizens of Central Equatoria State for support he garnered during elections, he called on them to exercise maximum control and lose no hope.

“I very much appreciate and thank citizens of Central Equatoria State for support, courage and decision they took to exercise their constitutional rights to vote for candidates of their choice. That right has not gone with elections. It is still your rights and you still need to exercise it any time,” he explained.

The veteran politician who sounded strong and optimistic for change urged against holding grudges and taking violence as means of expressing anger.

“I know most of the citizens not only in Central Equatoria State but the whole country hold different views about elections but we have to manage them peacefully as one and the same people,” he said.

    GREAT KONGA,

Unlike many independent candidates who lost the election , you come out clean and more powerful. Follow that dream , never, never giving up . You have trust power among your supporters and the next round supporters. many in your state will convince that you did not lost the election because you are the worse politician or having weak political stereotypes . however, it is standard opinions hold upon by the mainstream society across United states of south Sudan which resulted to the lost of the election by nearly all independently candidates.

In my own opinion , all these governors who won the gubernatorial position, some will not deliver anything to their own citizens and some will even be worsen by the existing corruption in the south Sudan political system . Lack and chance were the major factors during the election which made SPLM candidates to won the election . furthermore, our wishes as the south Sudan citizens is fair go policy not the won go policy which undermine the fundamental principles of states instead to creates the spaces and opportunities for all citizens regardless of political affiliation .

The recent election was the test of democratic transformation in worse affected region of south Sudan however, the goodwill of people of south Sudan has made this happen even though there are some candidates who are not happy with the results ,the future of south Sudan is very promising and the milestone toward democratic reform in the south has been marked.

GOD BLESS THESE POOR PEOPLE OF CENTRAL EQUALORIA AND SOUTH IN GENERALS

    GREAT LG,

You have shown to all the people in Sudan, Southern Sudan and in fact the whole world that you are a great man by showing maturity amidst all the injustices done against you. This is the spirit we need as people of southern Sudan rather than shoosing to run to the BUSH like Athor to wage war on its people. You have made Gretaor Equatoria proud.

I know others, and I mean the unteachable, may think that you are a coward. Great, for those who are not coward, we want to see how they will defend the south in the face of immenent war looming in our doors.

Without wisdom and sages of Greator Equatoria, the whole south will go up in flames within minutes. The voices of reasons are today called cowards and the weak minded are the courageous – let us see their courage comes another war minus the voices of reason..

Keep your head high Mr. LG because there is nothing everlasting in south Sudan.

Gore is a great man of the people. He does not want violence because he knows that his people have suffered enough to go through another unnecessary violence. Something bigger is coming and Mr.Gore will not allow himself to be dragged into destroying the future of his people.
