South Sudan Minister shuns praising corrupt officials

June 29, 2010 (JUBA) – A minister in the regional government of southern Sudan on Tuesday rejected unnecessary praising of corrupt officials, saying it negatively contributes to embezzlement of public resources.

Awut Deng Acuil, the minister of Labor and Public Service has urged members of the public to refrain from praising officials who have accumulated wealth and made themselves rich within shortest period of time after getting appointed to public offices.

“You do not have to unnecessarily praise individual officials whose performance and records show the contrary. Even though you cover them with praises, still you cannot change their characters notwithstanding diplomatic efforts. They must be exposed because South Sudan has a lot of people ready with required qualifications and skills to delightfully serve to the expectations of the region,” she said.

Minister Deng who was talking to more than 40 public servants attending a seminar on ethics in public service organized by her ministry said that looking down upon faithful servants who have retired with less cash in their pockets was fuelling unethical acts among public servants.

The seminar reportedly brought together key public servants from different ministries and highlighted number of issues including the need to regularly conduct work performance evaluation and competitive recruitment on regional basis. It also emphasized on thorough check of physical fitness of the employees of each ministry and check their ages as they appear in the national identification cards.

Many in south Sudan complain that some public servants are too old to withstand long hours of hard work. Some are irritable to adopt modern technological changes while others are unqualified for positions they hold. Majority hold positions which are not based on merits but allegations of participation in the last decades of civil war in the region.

Awut, according to some observers, is one of the few active ministers in the regional government who like seeing young people take over from elderly people. She is also strong supporter of presidential campaign against corruption.

One commentator, Deng Aguer, said people with such attitudes have also been leading in treating with contempt faithful retirees who lead ordinary lives.

“They praise them saying that they are good fighters while treating others with total disregard simply because they were faithful in their offices. This is very bad,” he said.

    Awut Deng Acuil,

Hooo! My God! She deserves to be the next president of the South Sudan Government who shall succeed Mr Mayardit later on his convenience ends of his Excellency term (s).

Awut Deng is a faithful servant to her southerners who had suffered for war in a decade and who also have been suffering now for corruption issue under the NCP and some ministers from the SPLM.

Awut Deng has acted in a will of good-faith by pointing out the real hidden action of corruption. This is the statement of wisdom and of Fiduciary of acting in good faith to the southerners:

“According to Acuil, even though you cover them with praises, still you cannot change their characters notwithstanding diplomatic efforts. They must be exposed because South Sudan has a lot of people ready with required qualifications and skills to delightfully serve to the expectations of the region,” she said”

With such statement we would refer Awut Deng like a current Prime Minister of Australia Mrs. Julia Gillard’s rise to become Australia’s first female prime minister in the Australia’s history who determines to serve the nation with her fully heart and promises to serve on her maximum truthful to the nation.

The too old trusted members, the least adapted to the modern system of managements/technologies and the unqualified members should be given other equivalent jobs to do rather than holding the south Sudan in a fixed speed of development while the nation needs to catch-up with the world.

Awut Deng Achuil deserves to be given the next chances as a presidential candidate to preside the South Sudan Nation after the referendum and at the end of the current term.

Thank All by Kuer Dau Apai

they are out of 7 schools of hard knock.as per qualification as she said, that is exactly true those without qualification but with rotted experience are the one holding posts with out documents and stagged even they are giving or even giving.
let make a change and the right people at the right place in term of literacy.
